Homemade Sweet Vegan Plum Dumplings

Dumplings are amazing homemade comfort food. We can fill them up with just anything we like, but I choose plums this time as we were blessed with loads of plums this year.

Ingredients:

  • 200 g of wheat semolina
  • 500 ml of boiling water
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 100 g plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 250 g of plums
  • 30 g of breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut butter
  • sugar to taste for coating
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

Preperation:

  1. Boil wheat semolina for a few minutes in salted boiling water.

    Add a tablespoon of coconut oil. Mix thoroughly and leave to cool down.
  2. Mix in the flour and vanilla extract.IMG_20220830_170431.jpg
  3. Divide the dough into 10-12 equally heavy piles.

    Add a plum to each pile.

    Shape the piles into balls using flour.

  4. Dumplings are cooked in slightly salted water. Let them simmer for about 15 minutes.

  5. Fry breadcrumbs in coconut butter.

  6. Top the cooked dumplings with breadcrumbs and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon or drizzle with syprup.

I totally love plum dumplings but I only had them 2 times. I have never attempted to make them but I should work up the courage because these look delicious.

I love it with plums as it cooks perfectly in the dumplings and still remains the freshness.

My granny used to make sugar & cinnamon dumplings and they were so delicious. This took me on a trip down memory lane, I've not seen this dessert for many years, so thank you for that @blackberryskunk! Placing a plum inside is something I've never tasted but really want to try!

Placing plums in the dumplings is quite a tradition here and also sometimes also with plum jam.

Originals come exclusively with plum!:D

I've never tried the version with semolina, usually make them from dough with boiled potatoes.

I really like to use it as it needs way less time to cook than potato and it make this recipe really quick and simple. 😊😋
