Jellyfish is an animal that lives in the sea, it is not only an ingredient that creates delicious dishes, but also in oriental medicine, Jellyfish also has many health benefits such as expectorant, antitussive, laxative of the liver, lungs, reducing fat, cooling, lowering blood pressure,... and many more benefits that I don't remember. But I firmly believe that just what I mentioned above is enough reason to make Jellyfish Salad, right?
In Southeast Asian countries in general and Vietnam in particular, salad is quite a popular dish and is loved by many people, possibly because it has all you need for a more perfect meal. I really like the Salad dish, this is a dish made from a lot of vegetables and mixed well, creating an attractive dish both in taste and color. In cases where I don't know what to eat for lunch or dinner, the first dish that comes to mind is salad.
Salads have many varieties such as Papaya Salad, Seafood Mango Salad, Pork Ear Salad,... And Jellyfish Salad - which I would like to introduce to you today.
How to Make Delicious Crispy Jellyfish Salad?
The first step in all cooking sessions is to go to the market and prepare the ingredients. I chose to go to the seafood market near my house. Da Nang is a coastal city, so it's not too difficult for you to find seafood ingredients such as shrimp, crab, fish, snail, ... and jellyfish are also sold a lot.
Ingredients to prepare:
- Jellyfish: 200g
- Green Mango: 1 Fruit
- Carrot: 1 Tuber
- Cucumber: 1 fruit
- Green Banana: 2 Fruits
- Figs: 1 Fruit
- Lemon, chili, garlic
- Peanut
- Various herbs
- Spices: Sugar, seasoning, fish sauce
1. Pre-Processing ingredients:
To clean jellyfish, rinse the jellyfish under clean running water 2-3 times, then use lemon to wash it and finally soak it with a little warm water for 2 minutes. When the jellyfish turns pale pink or light yellow, it is ready to be used to make salad. The type of jellyfish I bought is a pre-prepared Jellyfish that only needs to be cleaned to be used for processing.
Vegetables including Mango, Carrot and Cucumber will be washed, then grated and shredded with a knife. Green bananas and figs will also be thinly sliced ββand then soaked in brine.
2. Steps to make jellyfish salad:
Roasting peanuts: Heat a pan on the stove, then add peanuts, a trick to roast peanuts is to use chopsticks and stir well under low heat. You should not turn on a high flame because the peanuts will burn easily. Roast the peanuts for 5-10 minutes until you hear the crackling sound and the bean skin has turned dark red, then turn off the heat. At this time, the peanuts are roasted to a crispy golden color and very fragrant. Then let the peanuts cool and peel.
The most important part of Jellyfish salad is the sauce, it accounts for about 70% of the deliciousness of this dish. So do it correctly: first you peel about 4 garlic cloves, 3 chili peppers (you can increase or decrease the number of peppers depending on your taste.), 4 tablespoons sugar, 1/4 teaspoon MSG. Then put these ingredients in a mortar and pound them, then add about 3 tablespoons of fish sauce, 1 tablespoon of filtered water and 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice and mix well and taste.
After the sauce is done, add the shredded mango, cucumber, and carrot to a large bowl, then add the cleaned jellyfish, then add 2 tablespoons of the sauce and mix well . Then taste to see if more sauce is needed. Finally, you add roasted peanuts to make the salad much more delicious.
