Eid al-Adha has been set for Sunday, July 10, 2022. Although some Muslims have celebrated Eid al-Adha last Saturday, I follow the date set by the government that Eid al-Adha in Indonesia is on Sunday. Therefore, I tried to cook ketupat which is a characteristic of every Eid meal, both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Eid al-Adha is a celebration of the sacrifice of cattle meat. It is called this because in the story the Prophet Ibrahim was willing to sacrifice his son Ismail as his obedience to Allah's commands.

This Eid, I cooked white sticky rice ketupat to be used as a mainstay menu in my house. Besides sticky rice, I also make peanut sauce rice cake. First I will share a recipe for making white sticky rice ketupat. The way to make it is very simple and the ingredients are also easy to get at the nearest market or stall. Immediately, the ingredients are as follows:

  • Sticky Rice
  • Coconut cream
  • Salt
  • Ketupat nest

How to make:

First, soak the sticky rice in water for about half an hour until the sticky rice expands. Then wash the diamond nest and drain. While waiting for the sticky rice to expand, set aside the thick and watery coconut milk. Thick coconut milk is to be added with white sticky rice, while thin coconut milk is used to cook ketupat. After the sticky rice expands, mix the sticky rice and thick coconut milk. Add salt. Mix well.

Next, put the glutinous rice into the diamond nest with a dose of 3/4. After all the ketupat nests are full, put the thin coconut milk into the pan along with the filled ketupat nests until the ketupat sinks. After that cook for about an hour. Do not forget to stir every few minutes so that it cooks evenly. And the ketupat is ready to eat. Btw, this white glutinous rice cake is very delicious and served with coconut milk mixed with cornstarch and sugar.
