Are you bored having the same afternoon tea cake? You can try something different like this chocolate sponge cake. It doesn't take many ingredients, the recipe is very simple, and within half an hour you can have a homemade soft chocolate cake.
I bet adding chocolate ganache would be nice but if you don't have much time and need something quick for the afternoon then go for this recipe.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of flour
- 1/2 large egg
- 1/2 cup of oil
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 tbs of cocoa powder
- A pinch of salt
- 1/2 tsp of baking powder and a pinch of soda
- 1 tsp of vanilla essence
You can adjust the ingredients according to your taste and your cake size. I used only the basic ingredients.
Let's see the process.
First thing first, mix the dry ingredients. But before that, use a mesh to strain the dry ingredients so there will be no lump.
Then, prepare the wet ingredients. Use a mixer or any utensil to whisk the eggs properly, then add the oil, and slowly mix them.
Mix the dry and wet ingredients and then pour the butter into a pan. Brush the pan with oil/butter before that.
Place it in a preheated oven or follow the traditional technique, a gas oven to cook thoroughly. It took me almost half an hour to make it in a gas oven.
Take it out of the pan once it cools off. Rest it for a few minutes and it will be ready to eat.
Just look at it closely. Who would have guessed that it took me under 1 hour to make this and I didn't use an oven?
Add some sugar syrup and ganache, it will make this cake a delicious one.
The cake came out perfectly spongy. You can enjoy it with your afternoon tea or even a late-night snack. And the bonus is, that kids love it.
