I watched this movie 20 years ago when I was 8 years old. If you are familiar with the kind of TV at that time, it's just a CD player connected to a box tv with antennas.
When I watched this 20 years ago, I was just watching it for fun and so I didn't grab the moral lessons involved. I watched it then because I love the connection of the voices to the songs and the children gave me joy. Apparently even so I never stop thinking about this movie all my life, it was one of the best movies I watched while growing up as a child.
Last night I decided to go down memory lane and have a sneaky peek of my childhood. It's amazing to see how the world has developed over the years from watching movies on CD players to watching them on Websites and apps. I downloaded this movie from “moviebox” link
The Sound of Music took me back to 1965 when it was released, while watching this movie I was blown away with the mesmerizing scenes that appear, and don't even get me started on the delightful tunes of music notes.
The Movie/Storyline
Maria is an Austria postulate who was suppose to be a nun but apparently she was too high spirited for the religious life, and just for a while Mother Abbess the head of the Abby dismissed Maria just for a while to serve as a governess for seven children of a widowed naval captain in hope that she might find her purpose in life. Apparently with her generosity and love for music she gradually captured the heart of the children and captain, and fell in love with them.
The Captain and Maria finally got married and while they were in their honeymoon the Anschluss occurred and Austria was taken over by the Nazi Germany.
When the Captain and Maria returned from their honeymoon the Captain received a telegram ordering him to accept a commission by serving in the Germany navy and report to Brenerhaven immediately, the captain fearing the consequences if he joins the Nazis at the same time will be fatal if he refuses the offer decided to flee with his family to Switzerland at night.
The movie is filled with lots of music that will take you aback and give you a tingling feeling of what love feels like.
My best song from this movie is “The Sound Of Music”, not just the sound of music but the scene where the children sang it to welcome
the baroness. This scene captured my soul.

Morals
For me this movie is rated 9.99/10. I understand better what the movie portrays now than when I watched it 20 years ago. This movie taught me a lot of things and reminded me of a lot of lessons.

When Maria first came into the house she noticed that the captain had shut himself out emotionally since the death of his wife, and thus behaved very strictly by impacting a lot of discipline into the children, turning them into a matching squad like that of a football team.
I've always wished for children not to lose their parents at an early age, especially their mothers. It comes with great sorrow and agony, a home without a mother is like an empty Field without a game

Captain Von Trapp refusing to join the Nazis captured my interest here. Since the Nazis have already invaded Austria the best he can do is to try as much as possible to get along with everybody, including the orders, and rules. Besides, joining the Nazis would have given him a renewed Naval career.
I just feel the captain's decision to join the Nazis based on his principles is not just considered smart, I mean there is a saying that goes “When you in Rome behave like the Romans” but then again everyone has principles right? And here I was 20 years ago thinking the captain fled his country because he was caught operating illegal business :)
