I have shared this Contest with my local Hive group if they might have something to share about scary films, but the humor of the crowd stands with "There's nothing scarier than to love and be loved", I never thought how Love Story can ever be scary, someone might have gone Philophobic, LOLS. But thinking of it, "Scary" and FEAR go together, so a Scary Film may not always be a Horror or a Thriller, but anyway.
Sharing with you one of my favorite Horror Thriller/Film, I thought the Japanese hold the title for making Iconic Horror films, but this one from Thailand deserved recognition.
Pre-Showing: I'm getting intrigued when I first saw posters of it like saying "COMING SOON" with a woman hanging in the background. Yeah, I never thought that "COMING SOON" was the title of the film.
“Coming Soon" tells the story of Shane, a young man working at a movie theatre that will soon be showing “Vengeful Spirit” it is based on a true story about a disturbed, evil woman named Shomba who tries to kidnap little girls from a nearby village to replace her lost children and dragged those poor children into her macabre lair where she blinded them to keep them from escaping her clutches. Eventually, the villagers all band together to rescue their kids, and they go a little crazy themselves when they find out what she has done to them. In a state of uncontrolled behavior., they beat and nearly decapitate Shomba, finally hanging her from the ceiling of her hut to slowly strangle her to death.
The lead actor Shane is desperate for money and agrees to allow a friend to secretly videotape the movie so they can sell pirated copies. His friend who videotaped a copy disappeared inexplicably, Shane reviews the tape for some clues but begins seeing things, himself. Together with a friend Som, Shane attempts to discover the true reason behind the power this film seems to have, all the while, trying to keep it from being viewed by anyone else, and struggling to elude Shomba’s paranormal grasp!
Shane figure out that all it takes to draw her deadly curse is to watch the final scene of the film, where she slowly chokes to death and it won't be long before she shows up to take her revenge by dragging you into the film itself and killing you.
The Twist: Shane and Som do the investigation, they discover that Shomba isn’t even dead, she’s confined to a mental institution, nearly catatonic and no threat to anyone. They just assumed it was her, but the real ghost is that of an actresswho played the role, a poor woman verbally abused by a demanding director and then killed accidentally during the death scene by rigging gone terribly wrong. He said she couldn’t act like she was convincingly dying. And so the sh#t happens.
I didn't expect the twist at all. Instead of ghosts that come from myths in the film, terror actually comes from the ghosts of the actress who plays the ghost figure in the film. That is mind-blowing.
I won't spoil much, if Shane and Som survived, to answer those questions, you’ll just have to watch. LOLS
The movie is rather eerie, and the subtitles got some poor translations making it a bit laughable, but I will often be ilfeel if the figure of a ghost has an appearance that is not like a normal human being given scary make-up. But for the story in “Coming Soon”, the choice of ghost depiction is really suitable. No complaints.
Though some scary scenes are predictable, most scenes will make your hair stand or will make you jump out of your seat. My favorite scene was when Shane was running the movie at the theater he got the scare of his life when he saw his friend in the movie with eyes gouged up.
Now, the thing is that when you tried to watch this movie with a pirated copy. who knows what you might get into...
