I was scrolling on Pinterest just looking for something cute to make for my SIL and nieces as a last minute gift and I came across this fabulous idea for an Infinity Wrap. The garment looked super simple to make so I tried my hand and I must say that I’m rather pleased with the final result! What do you think?
So, if you’re looking around for an inexpensive last-minute DIY Xmas gift or stocking filler for the girls in your circle, look no further. The Infinity beach wrap is easy to wear no matter your age or size and just about anyone you know will probably appreciate this gift and find it useful (right now in the Southern Hemisphere and in a few months time in the north).
I’m so super excited about this wrap because it just couldn’t be simpler to make (you don’t actually have to sew it at all because two-way stretch fabric won’t fray) The only requirement is that the fabric must be super-duper stretchy (stretch both ways (across and down).
Size XS—8XL
What you need :
2m of 2 way stretch fabric like Lycra, Cotton Lycra or Spandex (make sure it is reversible (so it’s best to go for a solid color))
Dressmaker’s shears
Polyester thread
20 minutes (Hehee!)
What to do :
Lay the fabric on a flat surface and fold it in half lengthways (usually fabric is 150cm wide, you need a minimum of 160cm (plus 4cm per size), so fold it longways)
Cut out the item according to the diagram:
80cm to the fold for a size XS and add 2cm to the sides per size (4cm in all).
Cut a slit at the fold across the fabric at 19cm from the top edge of 18cm (this is to the fold, so it’s 36cm for the smallest size) for size XS and add 0.5cm per size up.
Cut a 31cm slit from the outer side edge at 19cm from the top (add 1.5cm for each size up)
The length is governed by the width of the fabric. Cut the length according to preference (I did 90cm for the white one and 1.25cm for the black)
Next, lettuce hem all raw edges or simply leave it raw.
Have fun devising innovative ways to wrap it. 😁
