This week's Battle Mage rule set challenge was Little League in which you can only use monsters and summoners which cost 4 mana or below.
Little League general strategy....
Well there's not too much to say, other than opt for the best splinter with the best low mana cards: dragon and fire spring to mind.
What really makes the difference is having a decent tank with relatively high health I find, one that can withstand the first attack.
I also tend to prefer an attacking rather than a defensive strategy, it seems to work better wiping out your opponent's monsters asap!
Little League battle exemplar
The battle below shows a battle featuring an attacking line up!
Mana and rulesets:
- just little league
- 40 mana, so OK!
Summoner - Darla for the attack!
- Cerberus - Beta but one of the best 4 mana tanks!
- Manticore - works well alongside Cerberus
- Beatle Queen - 2 magic attack
- Venari Spell Smith - not sure why?!?
- Spark Pixies - great speed and damage
- Fire Spitter - great damage and flying, useful for a potential miss with sneak.
The battle...
- round 1 - I take out my opponent's sethropod for no loss, shame my 4 damage from Cerberus is wasted on a 1 shield
- round 2 - I take out the Seaweed straight off the bat, lose my tank, but take out Ooze
- round 3 - I take out the Archer, looking good for me! And three damage sinks the Mandarin
- round 4 - now it's all over, I just polish off my opponent's final ranged card doing no damage now.
Final battle analysis
My double tank with high health and attack worked very well. In retrospect I would have been better off with maybe an opportunity attack instead of the spellsmith, or another 2 magic damage.
Little League final thoughts...
This is one of those rulesets you just have to play to learn, and you'll get a feel for what cards work best with 4 mana!
