The Turkey List: June 2024

in #hive-13398713 days ago

Introduction

I have been compiling lists of Hivers in various countries using @hivesql. The profile location data is not very consistent, but I try to group people by area when there are a few. There may be some mistakes due to my lack of local knowledge.

It actually does not take long to put these lists together, but finding all the people in a country takes more work.

Commentary

I was asked to do a list for Turkey, but it is not a country I had seen represented much on Hive. It appears to be another country where the number of active users is decreasing. I would hope that the community can work to improve this. They are welcome to take on maintenance of this list. I put all the data online.

That have not been many recent joiners and most accounts are fairly small. There are no Turkish witnesses that I found. There may well be more accounts that do not have obvious location data on their profiles.

If nobody else takes on maintenance of this list and others, apart from the #BritList, I will not be generating these posts very often. It may only be once each year.

What's the point of creating lists of users from a specific country on Hive?

Being from the same country doesn't seem to matter much here on Hive. We are citizens of the world. If there's someone from my country, it's just easier to organize meetups... but is it? I often meet Hive users from different countries more frequently than those from my own.

Maybe the role of profile locations is underestimated or underutilized?

I requested Turkey because, as @steevc said, I was curious about other Hive users in my country. I already know most of them, but there are some I have never seen.

I think it has some value for organising communities. It seems a lot of people do not realise that there are other Hivers in their area. I know with the Nigerian list people expressed surprise at how many there were.

I've gained a lot from local meetups and plan to organise more. I do the Brit list monthly, but I want to leave it up to the local communities to manage the rest.

It's easy to find the obvious accounts, but as I say, the metadata is inconsistent.

I am considering taking on some of the other big ones like Indonesia and Venezuela, but others will be by request.

Thank you very much for the list, it made me see some people I had never seen.

Hey @incublus, here is a little bit of BEER from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!

Do you want to win SOME BEER together with your friends and draw the BEERKING.

That's great. I hope you can connect with them.

I'll try my best!

Great job Steeve. As one of the first from Turkey on Hive (Steem), I know almost all of them. It was nostalgic for me to browse through the list. I guess those who don't have "Turkey" in their profile aren't included in this list. My project is on the active list (@trliste), thanks for mentioning it (that's how I found out the post), but I'm not on the list myself 😄 I thought maybe it's because my profile doesn't mention the country. Normally, there are a bit more active members from Turkey. In my curation trail on Trliste, there are 297 people, most of them are from Turkey. The number of active ones, I estimate, is around 40-50.

Thank you for your efforts 🌸

Hey @damla, here is a little bit of BEER from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!

Did you know that <a href='https://dcity.io/cityyou can use BEER at dCity game to buy cards to rule the world.

It only picks up those with a matching location. I'm finding the process interesting and I hope it's useful to someone.

!BEER

Absolutely. Personally it has been very useful for me. I have started my reviews. Thank you very much 🙏

I'm not inactive, I wasn't someone active to begin with in the sense of voting and posting. Ofc, excluding Utopian times and several of my of tries of getting to know people. But I was pretty active in terms of development. Nowadays, I'm still checking some stuff out, actively talking with some people from the community; but I am busy with my own life and don't have to time to allocate at Hive. Truth to be told, I don't care anymore because I don't believe in it anymore. Like, would I be active if I were voting? Most of the people use vote trails anyway; where's the value in that? So many stuff I disagree with, so many stuff I don't like, nothing I can do. So here I am, "inactive".

I can see you didn't vote or post for nearly a year, but you obviously saw the notification for this :)

We each find our own motivation and may have other things going on. I still believe Hive can do a lot of good, but after nearly 8 years I do despair at whether it can actually gain traction. It's fun for me anyway. Most of my voting is manual.
