The weather across the United States and Canada the last few days has been less than perfect to say the least with lots of snow and cold! So it seems like a perfect day to go back to Bermuda! A few days ago I shared my favorite coin from the island nation, but today I decided to share another sea and animal based coin. Nice thing about Bermuda is that in winter the temperature only drops to 50 F (10 C) on a bad day, sounds nice about now I bet to most people! Plus the ocean is pretty warm year round!
I picked this beauty up in a coin shop some years ago. Like many commemorative coins out of island nations in the 70's to 90's it's made of sterling silver meaning it's a little more predisposed to oxidation especially in a humid environment. This one has a light blue halo of oxidation around the edges, especially on the obverse of the coin, but it's still a really nice coin!
About the coin:

I love the beautiful proof finish on this coin, it just makes the images so much clearer in comparison. Also this coin is relatively uncommon as only 1,500 were minted. It makes it a great coin to collect or stack if you can get the right price!
The Bermuda Seahorse appears on many coins from Bermuda and is a very pretty fish. They are often referred to as long snouted seahorses. They have the ability to adapt their colors to match the background to evade predators. They grow up to 8 inches long (21 cm) and can vary in coloration. Interestingly the male carries to young in a pouch until they have developed enough to fend for themselves, but after that they are on their own. It's a rough world out there!

And since it's the middle of winter I though it might be nice to enjoy some views of the beaches of Bermuda. I've never been there but just looking at these pictures sure gives me the desire to take an extended vacation to the middle of the Atlantic ocean! Maybe even brave the Bermuda triangle once again, it hasn't killed me yet!

Isn't that water gorgeous? And for all you treasure hunters, there are many lost wrecks full of treasure off of Bermuda, one treasure hunter has recovered these amazing pieces of lost gold and emeralds. Sure gets me itchy to take my chances searching as well!
