Prior to buying Starfield, I was concerned for the game as I had heard rumours that this game was going to be woke, and if there is one thing I hate in video games it's exactly that wokeness and politics. So I didn't have any plans to actually buy the game, but since it was available on game pass I decided that I would give it a go and make a video about it. And not suprisingly this is one of the "worst" videos I did when it comes to likes and dislikes.
Of course, when I got into this space I knew that there were going to be some people who didn't like my opinion on both sides of the political spectrum, that is what happens when you talk about politics especially when it comes to video games. And I knew right away that this video was going to divide people down the middle.
There's a bunch of people that are out there that will scream Woke at anything little thing that doesn't follow in line with Conservative beliefs, and those people are just as bad as the ones on the left that scream racist, sexist, etc. at every little thing they dislike. In fact, I have had both of these types of people before leaving comments on my video.
A big one I often see is how having gay people in a game is woke, but the fact is it isn't, as long as them being gay isn't just a one-line throwaway and adds something to the story whether that is character development or something along those lines. In fact when I often talk about how not all gay characters are woke I often point to Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Her being gay played a major role in her character development and is what made her go off the deep end in S6 ( when her girlfriend gets killed)
Now coming into Starfield I saw that people were thinking that it was going to be woke because you can choose your pronouns. And albeit that option is woke in my opinion, as frankly, I don't believe that a man can be a woman and a woman can be a man ( but I still have respect for those individuals, as long as they have respect for me) and it was clear that it was only put in the game to reach a wider audience. However in my 10 hours of playing the game, this was really the only woke thing I encountered. So does it make the game itself woke? No.
Of course, a lot of the complaints I got in the comments was " You're only 10 hours into it that's why it doesn't seem woke," which is true. I was only 10 hours into it but working like crazy I can't sit down for a day and sink all my time into it. However, ten hours into any game you can definitely tell if it will be woke or not. Just look at my favorite game of all time the Saints Row Reboot.
People are pointing to a mission where you help a woman clone that was the clone of a male as woke, and I would agree. I mean you can't really hit the nail on the head any more than that, especially since she seems to say it out of nowhere ( from what I am told). But even still I don't think that deems the game woke.
When it comes to this type of stuff I often look at it as I do with bad game mechanics. A few bad mechanics can be overlooked here and there and really wont take away from a good story. But if you have an overabundance of them, and it happens every hour or so, than ya, it's going to be a problem.
But anyway the short answer is no Starfield isn't woke. If you want my more in-depth thoughts about this subject check out the video below!
