This is not a complete game review, there's plenty of others out there, such as this one from the respected LazyPeon. When I say 'respected', this dude doesn't pull any punches and has 746k subscribers.
He’s also not a crypto guy so things I take for granted, he struggled with. I didn't find buying a 'Legends of Elumia' NFT difficult, nor setting up a wallet, moving the token into it, and finally to the game.
If you are not into crypto, then expect a difficult curve. I think the Elumia team did great with their five-step tutorial on how to set up a character. The crypto world is like learning to read again, you don't begin at an expert level.
@bulldog1205 gave the game a terrible review, you can watch it here. So with a double negative barrage, I should have kept my distance right? Wrong…
Let's change focus. Lately, I have been getting bored on HIVE and started looking at 'Legends of Elumia' a Solona-based crypto MMO game, that actually is a game (what, SHOCK, those do exist?), but does it have anything, and more importantly, is it fun?
This is NOT a free game and is currently in a closed stage, so if you want to play then you need to buy a character from a Solana marketplace, such as Magic Eden, or Okx.
I am not going to reinvent the wheel and instruct you on how to do all this, as this information is already available here.
…’I tell you the stuff that is not obvious, things I had to figure out myself’…
For a MMO, Legends of Elumia is extremely restricted in classes which consist of Champion (Warrior, tank), BattleMage (Caster, bad tank), and the new Archer (Unknown but likely Ranged and an extremely bad tank).
Character are not generated like any other MMO, but are tradable NFT and as of today only 1854 of them exist, with 136 being available to buy.
...'the cheapest NFT on Magic Eden currently. She's a pissed off lady and angry like many of these girls, and as there's no 'Level' listed, she's Level 1 and fresh'...
The Champions are blokes, the BattleMages are girls, what can I say? stereotyping. The girls all look really pissed off, that’s what you get for showing them their place.
Archers are almost non-existent and currently, there are only 25 in the game after a very stressful mint yesterday. At 2 SOL each, they were gone in seconds, only to be re-listed at quadruple the price on Magic Eden. That's crypto and greed for you.
Not all BattleMages are made equal. Each has THREE skills and they can't be changed as they are NFT attributes. I managed to buy one with some of the worst possible ones, but I didn't want to spend more than 2.6 SOL (yeah, that's $260 floor).
…’are you out of your fucking mind?’
Probably, but I had a gut feeling about ‘Legends of Elumia’ and after playing for three days, feel I was correct. NFTs can be sold as well as bought though the floor appears to be dropping daily.
You can see the attributes before you buy and the level. What.., they don't start at Level 1?
No, you need to start thinking in crypto terms and your character as an NFT. Some of the 'for sale' toons are Level 1, but others could be Level 30, used and dirty... ugh.
'Aerilia Emberbrook' (my toon) has to be the thickest mage ever with an Intelligence of 8. She probably went to the same school as me, where they taught you to fuck around all day and do nothing.
Unlike other MMOs, Intelligence on a BattleMage is linked to the cooldown on your 'Heal' spell. It's all in the Gitbook.
600 words in and I have barely started. I had better show you something that’s not in the book.
Zete gives out daily quests. Don't expect exciting multi-tiered layered class quests. This is a 'Kill 15 Spiders' or similar. I couldn't find this dude when I started, and he gives out ONE quest per day which is considered a Side Mission.
Doing this daily quest gives you DUST, aka crypto! So do it.
Main Quests are not implemented yet. That’s it, ONE quest in the whole game and if you come back too soon, he tells you to go away.
Farkas is your man for Champion gear. Items are priced in DUST, the native game currency. You kill monsters, you get DUST. It's an unashamed grind.
Zhalot likewise sells BattleMage gear. Check these often as I hear great gear occasionally come up for sale and it appears to be a different set per character. What I mean by this is another player will see different gear than you.
Don’t expect it to come cheap. A single dungeon run may yield you 800 DUST, a solo run 500 and it takes time.
You can buy DUST with ‘real-money’, but I will cover that in a later post.
Before you go adventuring, grab a free heal from the tavern. Stand next to her and your health will be 100%. I say this as your health appears to stop regenerating around 70% when out there in the wilds. There are ways around this, and being BattleMage does help.
Dogo will give you a mana refresh. I once went out before getting these freebies, and I would advise you to get them before going out.
Bobotsmith sells gear for all classes, check often to see if there’s some great gear going, but expect it to be a stupidly high price.
There’s an amazing lack of information about the game on the internet. Why are the stats so bad, what’s my damage, what’s my AC? Neither is shown but you can tell what both are.
AC is 0 for a naked character, and although they have no gear, miraculously a spear appears in their hand. Invisible stuff at work again, it must be.
Some stats, but we are hardened RPG peeps and feed on stats, make them visible, will you?
Once you purchase a BP, it will have an AC value. 12 AC is my total AC. If you look in the gear shop you might find something better such as this BP which happens to be the same one I have but higher level.
Add 5 to 12 and you get 17. Now you can see why my maths at school was so useful, and the fact I didn't spend my entire school life farting about.
Now when it comes to damage, add up your main and offhand weapons. Mine come to 78, and that’s my maximum damage.
If you want to test this theory, find the training dummies and start wailing on one. The max number you will see are these 2 figures combined.
At this point, you will be saying to yourself. This looks fucking shit, not the graphics but the basic level of it all, and you would be correct.
Don't forget, crypto gaming is approximately 25 years behind regular games. Saying that Legends of Elumia is WORSE than World of Warcraft when it was released in 2003. I was there and an early adaptor.
...'real players can be identified by their guild and level that can be seen by all. That, and the fact they are all hanging around the portal that starts instances'...
Why bother? Because you can earn while playing, and the game itself is a fucking scream. I partnered with @snarrg last night for an ‘Easy Dungeon’ and haven’t had so much fun in years.
Now I don’t feel so bad for convincing him to part with 2.5 SOL for a BattleMage. In future posts, I will cover Tandaya Forest, how to solo in a game (where you shouldn't be doing this) and tokenomics.
‘Give us the money, give us the fucking money’ – Bob Geldolf (in denial)
We all want money, don't we?
- Earn currency while you play and become a global Rock Star with Rising Star
- Own assets, and earn currency while playing one of the oldest, most established Crypto Games, Splinterlands
