Pets have finally made it into 'Legends of Elumia' and after all the faffing about, setting my alarm for 2.53 am, dragging myself out of bed, and waiting for the mint at 3 am, which got delayed for almost an hour and twenty minutes I ended up with a doggo in a very roundabout way (which I refuse to discuss).
At this moment in time, there are only 86 in the world, but I see them often on the ‘steps’ where players tend to create groups for both 'Easy' and 'Mystery' dungeons, the latter often named 'Hard'.
…'it's apparent players want these and not just those greedy gougers who want to make a quick buck by selling them at inflated prices on MagicEden'…
Are they worth it, and do they make a difference?
At this early stage it would be unethical to pass information without personal experience about all the different types of doggos as the breed and colour make a difference, but what I can tell you is they are not alike in both interactive and passive abilities.
In my opinion, some are better than others and certain types would be preferable companions to specific classes.
Thanks to the #TheResearcher (not a HIVE user), for this informative information he keeps providing the community with, the abilities data is now general knowledge.
He does mention Pets dying which means when you, the hero, dies that doggo also kicks the bucket. I have noticed the ‘Canine Alertness’ is directly linked to your death limitation of ‘restricted energy’.
Once the resurrection symbol vanishes then doggo is back and his interactive ability is available to use immediately.
I was blessed with a White Pitbull and while this breed appears popular due to his instant 200 damage, in the long run, he would not be my breed and definitely not my colour preference.
When the Pitbull bites, you will hear a satisfying 'Grrrr' sound along with some animated jaws. I feel those jaws are a little too clean and at least some bacteria and gore should be visible. Maybe all doggos on birth (Mint) have a secret recurring dental scheme in place?
It took me four goes to capture those 'jaws'. Hitting '5' to bite and then 'Shift-PrtScn' in rapid succession can be hit and miss.
Having ANY type of doggo is better than having none, but these Pets are not in the same league as pet classes from other games such as Everquest or World of Warcraft.
They help, a little, and I was initially underwhelmed by doggos performance out in the field but overpowering him would unbalance the game. We don’t want everything to be too easy, else things will get boring and players will fall asleep at the keyboard.
While doggo is not biting, he jumps at the monsters, paws at them and silently barks but that’s about it. He does no damage. I suppose it’s better than licking their wounds after you have opened up a large gaping hole in their sides with your sword.
As both a Champion and BattleMage player my preference would be a 'Chao Chao’ with either class. I have always preferred ‘Damage over time’ spells and my history with other MMOs (WoW – Warlock, Everquest – Shaman), shows that.
600 damage over 30 seconds, would make more of a difference while fighting a Stone Giant in Tandaia Forest than an instant bite of 200.
I am a little rough around the edges with Windows video capture but managed to grab a solo fight with one of these rocky monsters while using doggo and bombs to aid my cause. An Alpha joined in which didn't help, bolstering the Stone Giant's offence but it all ended in tears for both in the end.
This is what you get for not clearing the immediate area of adds, simple carelessness at best.
The passive abilities, at least to me seem clearer cut. Regeneration of any limited source is a massive boon and Health for a Champion slaps me in the face.
Likewise, Energy for a BattleMage would save downtime. I would have preferred a Brown (Health) or Red (Energy) over the White Canine I received which yields a 3% critical chance.
...'the Brown Chao is my preference as a Champion companion; the price is quite laughable and I can guarantee it wont sell'...
Maybe it's taking its taking time for the community to realise this, but (Brown/Red) outweighs the benefits of (Black/White) doggos.
One other reason why I much prefer these abilities is there is no stopping either bar from reaching 100%. If you just stand there out in the wild and wait for your health or energy to reach 100%, you will be standing there forever.
It gets to around 70% and then stops. Without using heals, or buff food it's never going to fully regenerate. I am making the assumption it doesn't halt like natural regeneration.
For now, the doggo I am using is a little benefit to me. In the long term, I will be looking for a Brown Cho Cho and a Red Cho Cho for my Champion and BattleMage respectively.
Doggos don’t take up bag space but fit into your armour area, like rings or head items, so having a couple won’t impact your space.
There's little doubt that having a doggo, at least for now is a status symbol icon. I mean look at that little harmless cute pooch looking around for monsters to paw and longing for a cuddle. As long as you time it well, and he's in cooldown he won't take your hand off.
The last mint was priced at 0.25 SOL each and currently, prices start at around 1.4 SOL, which is more expensive than either a Champion or BattleMage NFT. It would be prudent to wait until the next mint and hope the Solona chain behaves better than last time.
There will be more doggos, and soon.
