I think that all of us at some point in our lives have the need to show our worth in something, in our hobby competitiveness is very normal, the need to surpass someone else, whether it be a friend or a 13-year-old on the other side of the world, competitiveness is never lacking in games that promote it, that is, anything that pits one player against another, Fortnite, Street Fighter, PUBG, Valorant, LoL, it doesn't matter.

The thing is, I'm someone especially competitive, I've always had those insatiable desires to go out there and end every player in my path, and that's not entirely bad, the desire to improve is necessary if you want to stand out and there's nothing wrong with pushing yourself to achieve it, but at least in my case it's something that has drastically reduced over time.

Personally, when it comes to PvP games, the one I have probably played the most is Fortnite, it's a fun game and doesn't require 100 GB of your hard drive, so why not? But after a certain point, I started feeling like every player I came across was a tryhard, I began losing matches as soon as I landed, reaching the top 50 was an achievement, and I think it's a universal truth, but no one likes losing that much.

Over time, I played other games, Overwatch 2, Apex Legends, even LoL, things that I somehow found fun because, legitimately, I was drawn to them after watching gameplay videos on YouTube, but when I start playing, the reality is very different. I start in Overwatch 2 and every enemy team has a Genji who apparently has never touched grass in his life, I go to Apex, and every player seems like a Titanfall pilot in mobility, LoL? I lost count of how many times I got flamed, and at this point, PvP isn't as fun anymore.

Maybe they think "well, you're bad," and I will calmly respond "yes, I am," but at least before I felt that I was capable of improving and facing players at a level CLOSE to mine, not that the game matches me with people who play nothing else, and this really is not a post to complain about the bad matchmaking that some games boast, but simply to comment that I have been dedicating a lot of time lately to playing single players or, failing that, cooperative multiplayer games, like Sniper Elite 4, which I talked about recently and is really cool.

My last week has been monopolized by Death Stranding, a game that is not even focused on action, you can finish it by avoiding the vast majority of conflicts and without killing anyone because the game is not about that, and while I will talk more in depth about the game at another time, I missed dedicating time to things that allow you to take your time to solve them.

When I bought my PC, I dove headfirst into online gaming of all kinds. I had spent almost my whole life without a decent machine and this was clearly the time to make the most of my new acquisition, and yet the online game I have probably played the most is Monster Hunter, a PvE, not PvP, marking a reality that in my case doesn't bother me, and it's just that I'm not good at PvP.

I'm not saying I will never play PvP again, generally people go through cycles and in my case it's the same, but right now I'm finding a very pleasant zone where I'm getting the most out of single player games and I would like to spend some time there. Part of it's that right now I'm not in the mood to tolerate other players' comments, so why do it? It's even better to turn to games where players are more of a help than an enemy, like Death Stranding or Dragon's Dogma, or obviously the PvE hit of the year, Helldivers 2, a service game that doesn't have PvP, nor does it need it.

What is the purpose of this post? To exalt my beloved single-player games, and to remind once more that despite industry trends leaning towards multiplayer and companies insisting on releasing games as a service, even though we occasionally have very good games like Helldivers 2 or Fortnite, if every industry game were a service game, we would go bankrupt, at least in my opinion. Continuing to have games focusing on a story like those from Sony, or simply being playable marvels like those from Nintendo, as well as the always experimental indie games, is necessary for the industry to thrive.

And that's all I wanted to say, to be honest. I am tired of PvP games, that's the message, good night. Thank you very much for reading, I hope you liked it, and see you around, bye bye.

im tired of pvps.png

Death Stranding Screenshot 2024.03.27 - 23.43.40.73.png

Resident Evil Revelations 2 Biohazard Revelations 2 Screenshot 2024.04.05 - 23.12.21.57.png

Sort:

PvP and Multiplayer games are not what they used to be a while ago. Most of the games that involve these modes are full of toxic people and kids of an age who shouldn't even be playing games. The era when you would enter an MP game to meet new people, make friends and have fun ended sadly.

Yes, I agree with you, the best way to play an online game is with friends, otherwise is a russian roulette, you'll never know who you'll find out there.

Thanks for your comment!

Well, I think first what you're saying is normal when you start to get frustrated with any game, whether it's PvP or not. You also have to see that there are different types of levels of competitiveness, as well as there are games that require hardware to really be able to be at the top that is necessary and these are things that currently if you are really looking to compete you cannot ignore.

You put Apex Legends as an example, Apex for me is without a doubt one of my favorite AAA games, almost 300 hours of play at level 142 and I love it precisely because of everything it requires not only at the hardware level but also at the skill level, it is a lie that you are going to competing in Apex if you don't have at least one mouse with DPI control, for example a Razer Viper mini, is a tremendous option.

At the beginning, Apex was really frustrating for me and I had to learn to play it, a shooter that was definitely nothing like other competitive ones, try millions of config and also understand what I mentioned above, the levels of competitiveness, it is impossible for me to compete against someone who It plays at 120 Hz, 200 FPS and 1 TB of internet when I have a 60 FPS monitor and barely 100 megabytes of internet. A predator plays Apex 10 hours a day, for example ACEU, who the hell competes against that brother?

However, I learned with what I have to enjoy and compete in Apex, in fact I no longer play royale since they released team death, control and the other modes. The game is also much more entertaining because it is better to play with 5 allies against 5 enemies and revive instantly than the tedious wait of Battle Royale.

Good post, Death Standing I must download it, I have it in Epic, what I do is that for example I have Apex installed, but at the same time I am playing Wolfenstein, Dragon Ball Xenoverse and Jedi Fallen Order, so I rotate hahaha

Feels liks years when last I played a proper PvP game. I've been in and out of Fortnite and others every now and then but I mostly stick to single player or coop games these days. Helldivers 2 is perfect. Coop multiplayer.

I totally agree with that haha, sometimes I download Fortnite again but that's it, I'm not that useful playing on teams so I get frustrated even playing with friends, but if we play Helldivers 2 everything feels different, that games is amazing.

I'm probably following your path on this one haha, thanks for your comment.
