Greetings ASEAN Hivers, this week we are hosting a kangkong cook-off, so show us your best recipe for this super common Southeast Asian leafy green.

🌿 Kangkong Cook-Off 👨‍🍳

👨‍💻 Week #116 👩‍💻

July 1st ➡️ July 8th, 2024

Kangkong, water spinach, morning glory, phak bung, trakuen, there are many names for this plant found and eaten widely throughout Southeast Asia. Here in Cambodia it grows easily and cooks quickly, and that alone has made it a staple in a typical Cambodian diet. The traditional way of preparation here is a stir-fry with oyster sauce, garlic, and chilies.

For this challenge I want to see recipes, especially how you ASEAN Hivers prepare and cook this crisp leafy green. I will even accept you a foodie post from those of you who aren't fond of cooking, but this veggie is a perfect first dish to learn due to being because with only a handful of ingredients and some steamed rice, it provides a full meal. I like to fry it with mustard seeds, curry leaves, shredded coconut, and roasted lentils, but I am partial to South Asian flavors. Alright chefs, I look forward to seeing you in the kitchen.

Week #114 ASEAN Hive Challenge Winners
🌊 Aqua Adventures 🏄

This challenge has helped me so much, I can't thank you all enough. I can't say for sure yet whether or not I will use any of these logo creations for our official business logo, but I am certainly inspired. I am terrible with artistic creativity, even failed art class in my highschool days, but the challenge entries have put some new ideas in my head, and I think I may incorporate features from more than one challenge entry in a future logo design. The first place winner was particularly creative with her use of the digits 152.

1st Prize 🏆 10% Beneficiary & 150 Ecency Points

How do I make the number "152" into a logo?
by: @xanreo

Last year, I participated in the Asean Hive Community Logo Contest. Luckily! I won in this contest. Now, there is another Asean hive challenge "logo design challenge" in this community, so I decided to participate again. I decided to use Ibispaint X to draw. Yes. Draw. There is this imagination that came into my mind while reading the blog posts of the community. I wanted to make the number 152 something that symbolized the place, which is shown in the blog post.

2nd Prize 🥈 6% Beneficiary & 100 Ecency Points

ASEAN Hive Community Challenge #115 - Logo Design Challenge
by: @semarekha

Today started with a beautiful and bright environment, the sky was clear and the sun was well positioned. But then slowly everything starts to change, the sky becomes cloudy and black, then the sun disappears behind the clouds and it rains quite a lot. Thus the change in the environment and the heavy rains have surprised us today. However, nature may be showing its changing state slowly like this, maybe we will see more extensive changes in the future.

3rd Prize 🥉 4% Beneficiary & 75 Ecency Points

Congratulations everyone 🤗💐
And the new challenge runs for 12 days now goof luck everyone 🥰

Thank you my friend, sorry I am so late with replies.

Ohhh, we don't eat spinach, sad 🤧. We only eat sweet potato leaves, they are kinda similar but the oldies is not fond on spinach, and that is why I dont eat that too 😆. But i heard this is really good in Pilipino Sinigang.

Anyways, good luck to those who'll participate, and congrats to the winners. 👏👏

Is it common in your country? Funny, some people eat sweet potato loves here in Cambodia, but kangkong is one of the most common dishes. 🙏🙏🙏

Yes, yes, I think we are one of the few who don't eat kangkong. But most people here eat that, and aside from it's a good vegetable, it has a lot of health benefits too.

Thank you for getting the 3rd place. Congratulations to @xanreo and @semarekha as well.

Thanks! Congratulations to you too! 🥰

Wow I really like how diverse kangkong recipes can be across Southeast Asia. Stir-frying with oyster sauce is classic, but I'm curious about other regional twists too. Wow such a great experience

I only learned a few years ago that it's designated as a toxic invasive species in the USA, and I don't think it's technically legal to sell live kangkong as fresh produce because it can easily root. It apparently can be found where I'm from in Indiana, clogging up small waterways and starving fish of oxygen, but I still have yet to see it in the wilds of 'Merica.

wow Indiana is such a beautiful place dear friend

Thank you Asean Hive! This is my second time winning to your logo contest~ hehe ✨️ I enjoyed making a logo for your business.

You are very creative and I always your content and challenge entries.

It was really a big surprise for me, because I couldn't spend much time and can't make a very good logo, but after a long time I got a little chance and tried to ensure my participation. It is a good feeling to see your name on the list of winners. Congratulations to all the other winners. I will try to participate in the next episode as well.

Thank you for taking the time. I hope things in your country become stable again very soon.

Kangkong is one of my favorite vegetables, we cooked it in sauted way. By the way, this challenge is very interesting and exciting, I wish I could join this. Best of luck everyone. 👍

It is one of the cheapest and most common leafy veggies here in Cambodia, and my whole family loves it.

nom nom nom, thanks for joining chef.

Thanks for joining my friend, sorry to be so late with replies.

No worries my friend

Ohh i thought only us filipino call it kangkong. its sad i dont know how to cook. anyway good luck everyone.

Here in Cambodia it's called "trakuen," but I think kangkong and water spinach are common names for it internationally.
