Southern Oxford Canal - Monomad Challenge

in #hive-142159last month

Hail to the Hive!

I have to confess to getting sidetracked with this monochromatic post as I was actually in the middle of a post of our cruising along the Southern Oxford when the B&W itch needed a scratch so I have paused that one and am now scratching my monomad itch. Hope I don’t get a rash 😉.

The cloud cover in these was just lovely and acted like a lacey veil over the sky fleshing out the palette nicely. Such a beautiful summer day and stunning to behold the detail that is revealed in black and white.

As I have mentioned before , I do have to steer the boat using my backside as I am taking these images, but it just has to be done. No way I am missing out on some of these shots.

At the moment we could be cruising for up to 6 hours or more and the landscape just keeps coughing up superb scenery, the framed images leap into my brain and I am reaching for the camera, steering with my ass. I can’t be the only one that does this surely?

And I am aware people on the tow path, as well as other boats, have seen me doing this, and I’d like to think they admire the skill that goes into it. Although they are probably grumbling under their breath that I should be concentrating on captaining the vessel lol. The British do love a good moan.

Anyway, touch wood, I haven’t crashed yet. Fingers crossed, touch wood, pray to old gods and the new !

Love a bit of #monomad 😜

Well, I hope you don't get busted by a canal speed camera, LMAO! I bet there is an old law somewhere with small letters saying ass-steering is prohibited! :D
A totally unrelated question - that PV panel is probably about 400W, right? England isn't the sunniest country, so how much green energy do you get on an average day? What type of batteries do you use for storage?

the leisure batteries are just regular truck/ car type batteries and even though its not a big panel it manages in the summer to keep up with fridge, lights , water pump and usb recharging. In the winter we atill need to run the engine an hour or so a day to keep the batteries topped up. We have one engine batt and 2 leisure.

Some folks have joke speed camera signs up along the canal 😃 at the bottom of their gardens backing on to the cut.

Great! That doesn't sound expensive, well done. I have a car battery and invertor, just in case, for backup if something goes wrong it gives us a day of working on our PCs... if I don't use the coffee machine, of course :)
The only downside I hear are the limited recharging cycles, compared to the Lithium batteries but their price is another story.

I bet sometimes weird stuff happens on those boats so I guess there are real cameras as well! :D

Ass Driving...

Reminds me of a few old trucker stories about the rookies.

One driver died in his cab from the heat on a hot summer day. They told him he could not roll down the windows or he would lose all his air pressure.

Or the one that might really be true about the JB Hunt driver who crashed while hanging out the door rolling down the interstate trying to close his side tool box door... "Cruise Control is Deadly."

Hey Cam... Maybe Elon Musk can make a self driving Tesla Narrow Boat ?

they do have electric narrowboats now. I was joking that ELon should invest in the network and make boats and then seeing as how people falsely believed there were canals on mars yeats ago he could plan on building them for real lol

Sign me up. Mars here I come...
