With fruit being the topic for this week's #POBPhotocontest run by @friendlymoose I've got some apples to show you.
This year, the Dwarf Apple tree that was planted in May of 2018 is finally loaded with five different varieties of apples. The secret to getting five types of apples from the same tree is the tree has been grafted using the branches of five different varieties of apples. In the past, the apple tree has flowered but has never set any fruit. Year after year the flowers would drop to the ground and once again we'd be disappointed, wondering what the heck was happening.
Between the two Dwarf Apple trees that are planted by our vegetable garden, there have to be over a hundred apples hanging from the branches.
@farm-mom is already talking about Homemade Apple Pie.
Putting a date and time stamp on the pictures I take helps me keep a log of exactly what has been going on at the farm.
Recently the camera has had a mind of its own, switching back and forth from putting the month first and the day second. Then for some unknown reason, the camera places the month second and day first as it has done in this picture of the apple blossoms. On May 5th, 2024 flowers littered the tree like never before. Six weeks later the apples in the previous pictures are already the size of golf balls.
