You see, one thing with money is that it's very difficult to make but easy to spend. Infact our earnings if we look at it critically is not even commensurate to our expenses. We earn less and spend more but somehow with proper planning, we scale through. For this festive season, we were lucky to get invited for my aunts birthday so first first our celebrations is already sponsored. Killing two birds with one stone, I told my mommy that we are also doing the new year there so by the time we are getting back, the festivity is over and it's back to our normal lives. The money we ought to spend if we had stayed the holiday in our house, will be an automatic carryover to next year. Thus I would not have to work as hard or live in penury for the two months of January according to @abenad.
Another thing is, the reason January seem longer than the rest month is because most times, people find themselves living and surviving on left overs. I don't know if it's just me but there's this thing when someone is managing fund or living in starvation which is, time would just seem to move at at very slow pace.
You know, my sister and I got talking about the family and then she mentioned it to me that our cousin whose an international entertainer is very stingy. According to my sister, for someone at his status, he's supposed to be free with money.
I was really surprised with the news from my sister because yesterday, that same cousin tagged stingy today went out and asked everyone what they wanted to drink. He went on to get everyone their drink of choice which is not cheap because some people requested for red wine. My kid sister got Campari while others got the drink they wanted regardless of the cost. How can someone like that be tagged stingy today I wondered.
I was forced to ask her where her submission was coming from and then she broke it to me that my kid sister informed her from when she went clubbing with him and our other relatives.
According to my kid sister, the first club they went was already billing them three hundred thousand Naira for drinks and then my cousin asked that they leave for a cheaper club. They eventually saw one, quite affordable too but my cousin still went on to negotiate and request for a discount of which the club gave him five thousand Naira discounted price because of his social status.
After listening to my sister, first thing I asked her was; do you think that it's easy to make money? Or create value to earn? That moment, it was like she became more aware with my questions and I noticed that she was having some sort of sober reflection. The thing is, while my sisters felt that my cousin was being stingy, I saw a financially wise young man whose prudent in his spending and not carried away with the jollification of the moment. It is people like my cousin that will start 2025 prepared and never go financially stranded.
Again on my part, one sure way that has helped me tackle unnecessary expenses for the holidays is focusing on my needs and not having too much cash in my posession. The banks in my country Nigeria are also helpful to me this period because during this festive season, they withhold cash making it scarce. Thus, reducing our purchasing power. In preparation for the season so as not to over spend or get financially stranded, I draft my Christmas and new year budget early enough and withdraw the needed funds a month to the holidays.
Above is my response to the hivelearners ptompt.....
