Welcome to another episode of Hive Learner's creative Sunday initiative. As usual, I will take you through some simple experiments I made in the kitchen.
I decided to make something different with my rice, I wasn't sure what it will turn out to be but I was certain that it would taste great. After pondering for some time, I named the combo "green rice and green stew".
The name gives a different impression about the food but it's not what you think it is and for better understanding, let me take you through the recipe.
Pumpkin leaves
Basil leaves
Rice
Seasoning
Salt
Groundnut oil
Fish
Pepper
Onions
Looking at the recipe, I have two vegetables and that's where the name "green" came from. The meal is very easy to prepare and the nutritional value is top-notch, I will tell you more about it so stick around.
Procedure
The first thing to do is to make sure your recipe are clean. The vegetables must be properly rinsed and the fish dirt must be removed.
Blend your vegetables till it is smooth, you can add small size of onions to it.
Sieve the blended vegetables to remove the fluid from the remaining vegetable particles that didn't blend. Don't dispose the particles because it will be used for the stew.
Vegetable particles
With this done, we can start preparing the food.
- Instead of using water, I used the vegetable fluid to cook the rice.
- Allow the vegetable fluid to boil and after rinsing your rice, turn it into the boiling fluid. It is just the normal procedure of preparing your white rice. Add 3 spoons of oil, salt, and half cube of seasoning.
- Allow it to boil until the rice is ready for consumption.
The vegetable particles from the blended vegetables will be used to make the green stew. I used the same oil that I use to fry the fish so don't mind the color of my oil.
- Heat your oil for a few minutes
Add your onions and allow it to fry as well.
Pour your pepper into the hot oil
- Add salt, seasoning, and the fish.
- Allow the pepper to fry for about 5-8 minutes under low heat.
- Add the vegetable particles in the end and mix it very well with the stew, and allow it to fry for another two minutes until your stew is ready.
As you can see, it is a very simple process and adding vegetables without eating it directly is the deal about the food. You won't see the vegetable in the food but the nutrients are present in the food.
We all know rice is carbohydrate and the simple technique can help bring extra nutrients to your food. You can use other vegetables but I choose basil and pumpkin because of the nutrients present in them.
Basil and pumpkin leaves are not just nutritious but medicinal as well, the combo will do your body system a lot of good.
