Rocktupus? Too soon? huh?
Today I sculpt roper from dungeons and dragons 5e. This monster is part rock and part octopus , its weird. I like weird. This model is inspired from a friend over on Tabletop Crafters united discord server. He made some models with tentacles and I wanted to try making a creature with tentacles. Roper was the perfect idea.
Software I used : Zbrush
Tablet : XP-Pen Artist 22E Pro
Time : Around 3 hours ~ ( still in Work In progress )
This model is a work in progress. I still need to fine tune some details and fix some shapes in the legs.
here some progress shots. hope you like it.
Zspheres is perfect for this kind of work. I love working with zpheres. Its really easy to build shapes like ivy, tentacles, arms, legs, tails. You can preview the spheres by pressing A and adjusting the shape accordingly. Zpheres are basicly spheres joined together to make a tube like shape which you can move, rotate and scale.
The silhouette of the monster is important when it comes to printing miniatures. Since its usually very small when printed the silhouette of the model is the first thing we notice when we look at the creature. If its too complicated people wont understand it in the first look. In order not to confuse people I need to place tentacles in a certain way. When you look at it you immediately know what it is. Zbrush has a little window on top left corner which you can check the silhouette while sculpting.
Finally These are the reference images I use while sculpting this piece. The software I use for reference is PureRef. Its great check it out. Have a nice day.
