Mimic sculpt WIP

in #hive-1565092 years ago

I was looking for ideas to make mimics. Started building stone pillars from basic shapes. This will be a large mimic/object set for my patreon and cgtrade store.

There are couple variation to pillars.

People generally use Dynamesh on zbrush to block out general shapes and build the base mesh. Zpheres arent used anymore generally but I find it more usefull and easy to use. Especially with things like arms , tails and for this model ivy around stone pillar.

And I have to figure out how I want the mimic shape. So I took a screenshot in the middle of the sculpt and make a quick sketch of what I have in my mind. its just an indication to where thing should go. From there i continue sculpting. Keep in mind that this is still work in progress not a finished piece. i'll work on this more to refine shapes.

The tongue is especially challenging. The most difficult part of the sculpt so far. But I manage to block the general shape of it. it needs to be further defined. Its a weird muscle to work with. It doesnt attach something to each and like any other muscle on our bodies. Eventhough this is not a person, or not a real life creature, I still need to think about real life anatomical example while sculpting. To achieve believable results.

This is where I left. Left mimic hiding as a pillar, right is its true form.
