This is my post for #freewriters 2611 prompt polish the brass moustache hosted by @mariannewest.
I thought that maybe the spelling of mustache was wrong because, in the US, we do not spell it with an O in the word. But it is spelled with an O in other countries. Leave it to us to be different.
The day before this last cold front hit, my husband went to the inlet and caught a few mullet for me to can. Even though the Front had not come through yet, it was still cold and I did not want to go with him.
I am not much help cleaning fish because of my bad hand, but I washed them after he cut the heads off and gutted them.
This time of year they have roe, (eggs and sperm) the yellow are the eggs, we only got 3 which is odd for this time of year we should have gotten 70% yellow. I do not know what is on the end of one of the white roe, it is hard and a dark color.
I joked that it mated with a crab. I wonder if it is shaped like this if it would make a good object to polish the brass moustache on a museum bust.
The slit would be good to place each hair into and shine it. I would not like to have the job of polishing it. Getting between the hairs on the mustache has to be the hardest part. The photo is one I took of a brass bust in the Museum of Natural History in NYC.
