This is my post for #freewriters 2625 prompt speed control hosted by @mariannewest
To quote an old song, "Oops, it did it again." It snowed in Florida. Thankfully, it did not snow where I live, only in North Florida. This morning I turned the news on, which I rarely do. I turned it on to see the weather and they were telling people not to drive across any bridges where there is snow and ice and if you have to drive to watch your speed control. They were stressing that Floridians do not know how to drive in the snow. I had to laugh at that. Many true Floridians have moved out of the State, leaving it to the northern people who have moved here, maybe the news is worried because the northerners have been here so long that they have forgotten how to drive in it.
I am happy the weathermen were correct. I live on the East Coast, and it is only a two-hour drive to the West Coast. They said areas around Tampa, which is straight across from me, would see temperatures in the upper 20s and 30s. They said to prepare to see these temperatures in the middle of the two coasts, and it will get warmer as you move east. So, an hour west of me, it was in the 30s, which would have killed 90% of my plants because I did not cover or bring any inside, I had faith in what they said.....
But once again, I am worried about my plants, not all of them, only my beloved dessert roses. If the temperature stays below 50 for very long, it could kill them. It was supposed to stay above 50 but it is 47 outside now, it had to be colder in the wee hours of the night, but it has been raining off and on all night, and the wind blew so hard that it woke us several times throughout the night. Maybe these two things will save them, time will tell.
I love all my desert roses but only have one with white flowers and I would be crushed if I lost it. I have been reading about propagating them, and in the spring I plan on making more white ones. I used to have two and a lady who came to one of our plant sales asked if I had any with white flowers, I told her I did but they were not for sale. After talking with her and seeing how she loved them as I love them I told her I would bring one to the sale the next day. One was raggedy looking and the other I loved, it was beautiful. I fought with myself over which one to sell her, I could not bring myself to sell the uglier one so I gave her the good one. I sell them for ten dollars in 3 gallon pots.
I am glad we no longer have plant sales so I do not have to part with any more of them. I have given some away but it hurt me deeply to do so.
Back in December I saw these bugs on a couple of flowers and thought they were aphids, I picked the flowers and put them in water to kill them, but now that I look at the picture with glasses on, they look more like ticks, what do you think?
