Left behind
Summer vacation, and all the students are home from school, as are their belongings. Well … most of their belongings anyway. There is always something that gets left behind by someone, and this time, the item in question seemed to speak loudly about the changing times and cherished arts that seem at risk of fading away.

At some point in the recent past, I seemed to have crossed an invisible line and entered into a new chapter. Instead of rushing me in and out of rooms from one exam to the next, the doctors and nurses have started telling me what to expect. Things like near-sightedness, ringing in the airs, and typical aches and pains.

Driving through the city earlier in the week, I was struck by a massive white crane flying between tall buildings and heading out of town. Most likely, it had just come from a small pond in a nearby park.

Isn’t it funny how something can catch your eye at any time?
These days I spend most weekends at parks with soccer fields, taking my son from one soccer tournament to the next. Last weekend, though, instead of just watching, we had a father son game, so I was able to play.
Upon leaving, sunburnt and exhausted, a slight breeze rattled a hibiscus tree just as I walked by and the flowers all shook in a way that grabbed my attention.
