Let's visit Windsor Castle, when an imaginary world becomes reality

Hello my dear Pinmapple friends, today we will go back a little bit to my 2019, but together we will travel a little bit further back (and to the present too, hey!), as we will approach Windsor Castle, which is located near London, in United Kingdom. It's important for you to know that these photos were taken in the aforementioned year because you will see, as you arrive at the old train station, a picture of Harry and Meghan. At that time the royals were apparently happy with them, but I doubt very much if that picture is still there at the moment, as Harry is no longer part of the royals by his own choice (I applaud him, yes, hehe, I'm "team" Harry).

That was my first time in the UK (and well, the only time I've been to be specific), and I fell in love with every place, especially Windsor I found beautiful.

Entering the grounds of Windsor Castle

From my Latin culture and especially Argentina, I am not used to seeing castles, much less know about the dynamics of being under a monarchical regime of government, where a Prime Minister comes to act similarly to the president in a Republic, but of course hand in hand with the monarch, then, I was a little shocked to see the portrait of Queen Elizabeth as soon as you entered the security area in the visitors hall of the castle. It was as if they were worshiping this person, who was Queen by inheritance, but then, especially when I visited Queen Victoria's castle (I will take you there later in another publication), I began to understand the English society.

I may be wrong, but I noticed a lot of respect for the monarchy in general. There is an impressive value, admiration, care, even though many English people complain about the taxes to maintain the city, there is a large number who are grateful that those taxes are permanently invested to sustain a city that has a growing tourist activity. And it's like somehow there is always in his speech some kind of positive reference to the monarchy, at least that was the case in 2019.

Well, I got off topic. Once you get to the area where the castle is located, you have to go through security, letting your bag slide through the typical tape that we all know. Then they put a purple wristband on you, and at that moment, you become an admitted visitor to Windsor Castle.

My smile was uncontrollable at that moment. London had already touched my heart and all the experiences I had there were food for my soul. That particular morning, after assuming that the day for that visit would be rainy, the Universe gave me sunshine at Windsor Castle, and although it became cloudy afterwards, I had the pleasure of seeing those sunny greenery decorations, surrounding a small lake, and I could see how the stones of a part of the castle reflected the radiant light.

Windsor was beautiful, well, it sure still is, and I was there to see it.

Strolling through the grounds of Windsor Castle

The castle actually has different towers and sectors, and most of them you can't enter. You can go into the souvenir store, which is nice, but the rest is reserved for royalty when they are there and is usually closed to the public. But seeing it from the outside is impressive. I estimate that to see the inside one should need two or three full days.

You can walk freely through all the spaces, take pictures, and something very cool is that there is an ice cream shop with ice cream from another planet, it is Dairy Ice Cream, where they give you in the ice cream, a cookie with a printed crown (very relevant for the place, right?).

When it clouded over, everything became a bit more fantastical and surreal, at least to my mind. The things I saw there, the architectural structures, in my imagination, corresponded to movies, stories, books; almost all of London was for me like a story, because everything was perfect, everything was taken care of, the gardens looked like Alice in Wonderland and J.K. Rowling with her Harry Potter accompanied me at every step in that city, because everything I had recreated in my mind, was just that (my imagination was more real than the movies, hehe).

I see a crow for the first time

Then as the sun went down, came that dramatic tone. Those pointed stone figures stretched into the sky and of course, the crows appeared. That was the first time in my life I had ever seen a crow. I had misjudged them very badly, because I always had them from the biblical story (from Catholicism and not because I am too religious, but because it was simply a story I grew up with) as those who attacked a being when it was about to die.

And when I saw that black creature live for the first time, after a second of fright, I looked at it, and it was simply a beautiful black bird. From that day on, I began to approach the crows of London when one appeared, and I discovered that they are in fact very shy and fearful, as well as friendly.

My trip to Windsor Castle brings smiles to my face to this very moment, every time I recall the almost intoxicating joy of being immersed in a fantasy story that was, in fact, real.

I hope you enjoyed this photo journey my dear friends.

As someone from a former british colony, it is absolutely fascinating to see pieces of history that would have affected the lives of my ancestors as well as ours (still even today) without us even knowing or getting to visit the location. Thanks a lot for sharing!
