I hope you are well or are trying to be well. I am fine, but on the other hand, I feel sad with what the place we will go today reminds me. The most important point of the 1921 Battle of Sakarya. Also, Duatepe, where Atatürk proved himself many times and proved his military intelligence again and again.

Duatepe is the Turks' last line of defence. Against whom? The Greeks. One of the important pillars of the War of Independence, which had already started in 1921. After this battle, Atatürk was awarded the title of "Gazi “ and the rank of ”Field Marshal ’ by the Turkish Grand National Assembly. I don't know if you would have felt it, but even though the air was quite clean on the hill, there was still that smell of blood and earth, and I still have this smell in my nose.

I'm used to feeling this smell every time I visit Çanakkale, but I don't know whether it's because of my love for Atatürk or the fact that the capital was never set foot on by the occupiers, Duatepe has become a special place for me.

One of the characteristics of Ankara and one of the factors of its being chosen as the capital city is that it has never been set foot in by the enemy before, which impresses me a lot. Ankara was also the first place I went travelling on my own. Of course, I didn't like its people much because I had pink hair at that time and because of the behaviour of some ignorant people, but Ankara is beautiful.

Frankly speaking, it seems difficult to get here. As you may have realised from the photo of the hill, there is no road or bus stop. As far as I learnt, it is possible to come here with small tours departing from Polatli, but if you do not have a private car, you have no other option.

To pay our respects at Duatepe, we observed a minute's silence and recited the Turkish National Anthem. This may seem strange or silly to some, but how can we call ourselves nationalists if we do not behave in such a place?

At Duatepe, of course, I couldn't hold myself back and cried. Seeing where such a country has come from at my young age and not being able to do anything makes me very sad. When I witness what Atatürk, the military genius, did, I feel even sadder.

The place where this statue is located is further to the right. Rumour has it that the Greeks approached Duatepe for the invasion from the place where Atatürk was looking and Atatürk is still looking there. He will continue to look, he will continue to defend, protect us and guide us to the good even with ideas of him.

Every corner of my Türkiye smells of blood and war, but Duatepe was very different. It may be another battlefield for some, but not for me. It would not be wrong to say that I walked in a cemetery that made me feel my nationalist feelings to the fullest. Everywhere is a grave, both in the martyrdom there and in a place where there are martyrs who cannot be buried.

The fact that the martyrs, whose birth years are written according to the lunar calendar as far as I can guess, were the last line of defence and that they were able to prevent the enemy until reinforcements arrived is a special epic of heroism. It is not enough to know the names of all of them one by one, but it is necessary to continue on the road with the hope of the future rather than being crippled by the pain of our past. This is what I understand from Atatürk's teachings. But this does not mean that you will forget the existence of those who want to cut off your arm. You should also be sharp enough to think about them all.

I would like to end my blog with a quote from Atatürk. That's why I want my last word to be Atatürk's words, so take care of yourself in advance, stay in health and love, and please remember that;

There is no line of defense; there is a defense of the entire land. That land is the whole homeland! Not a single inch of the homeland’s soil can be abandoned unless it is drenched in the blood of its citizens!

Umarım iyisinizdir ya da iyi olmaya çalışıyorsunuzdur. Ben iyiyim ama bir yandan da bugün gideceğimiz yerin bana hatırlattıkları ile de hüzünlü hissediyorum. 1921 Sakarya Meydan Muharebesi'nin en önemli noktası. Ayrıca Atatürk'ün de kendini defalarca kanıtladığı yetmiyormuş gibi askeri zekâsını bir kere kanıtladığı yer olan Duatepe.

Duatepe, Türklerin son savunma hattıdır. Kime karşı peki? Yunanlılara. 1921'de zaten başlamış olan Kurtuluş Savaşı'nın önemli ayaklarından biri. Atatürk bu savaştan sonra TBMM tarafından layık görüldüğü "Gazi" ünvanını ve "Mareşal" rütbesini alıyor. Siz de hisseder miydiniz bilmiyorum ama tepede hava oldukça temiz olmasına rağmen hâlâ kan ve toprak karışımı olan o koku vardı ve hâlâ da burnumda bu koku.

Her Çanakkale gezimde bunu hissetmeye pek bir alışkınım fakat Atatürk sevgimden mi dersiniz yoksa başkentin işgâlciler tarafından hiç ayak basılmamasının etkisi mi dersiniz bilmiyorum, Duatepe benim için ayrı bir yer oldu.

Ankara'nın özelliklerinden biri ve başkent olarak seçilmesinin etkenlerinden biri olan daha önce düşman tarafından ayak basılmamış olması beni pek bir etkiler. Ayrıca Ankara benim tek başıma gezmeye gittiğim ilk yerdir. Tabii o sırada pembe saçlı olduğumdan ve bazı kendini bilmezlerin davranışlarından dolayı insanlarını pek sevmem ama Ankara güzeldir.

Açıkçası buraya ulaşım zor görünüyor. Tepenin fotoğrafından belki anlamışsınızdır, yol ya da otobüs durağı yok. Öğrendiğim kadarıyla buraya Polatlı'dan kalkan minik turlarla gelmek mümkün ama özel aracınız yoksa başka bir seçeneğiniz de yok.

Duatepe'de saygılarımızı sunmak için 1 dakikalık saygı duruşunda bulunduk ve İstiklâl Marşı'nın okuduk. Bu belki bazılarına garip veya aptalca görünebilir fakat böyle bir yerde bu davranışlarda bulunmayacaksak kendimize nasıl milliyetçi diyebiliriz?

Duatepe'de de tabii ki de kendimi tutamadım ve ağladım. Böyle bir ülkenin geldiği yeri görmek bu gecç yaşımda ve bir şey yapamamak çok üzüyor. Askeri deha olan Atatürk'ün yaptıklarını şahit oldukça da daha da bir hüzünleniyorum.

Bu heykelin bulunduğu yer bir daha sağ tarafta kalıyor. Söylenine göre Yunanlılar işgal için Duatepe'ye Atatürk'ün baktığı yerden yaklaşmışlar ve Atatürk hâlâ oraya bakıyor. Bakmaya da devam edecek, savunmaya, bizi korumaya ve fikri ile bile iyiye yönlendirmeye devam edecek.

Türkiye'min her bir köşesi buram buram kan ve savaş kokuyor da Duatepe pek bir farklıydı. Bazıları için başka bir savaş alanı olabilir fakat benim için değildi. Milliyetçi duygularımı dolu dolu yaşatan bir mezarlıkta yürüdüm desem yanlış olmaz. Hem orada bulunan şehitlik hem de gömülemeyen şehitlerin bulunduğu bir yerde her yer mezardır.

Doğum yılları tahmin ettiğim kadarıyla ay takvimine göre yazılan şehitlerin son savunma hattı olması ve destek birlikler gelene kadar düşmanı engelleyebilişleri ayrı bir kahramanlık destanı. Hepsinin teker teker adlarını bilmek yetmez fakat geçmişimizin acısı ile sakat kalmaktansa geleceğin umudu ile yola devam etmek gerekir. Atatürk'ün öğretilerinden anladığım budur benim. Ama bu demek değildir ki senin kolunu kesmek isteyenlerin varlığını unutacaksın. Hepsini düşünecek kadar keskin de olmalısın.

Yazımı Atatürk'ün bir sözü ile bitirmek istiyorum. Son sözümün Atatürk'ün sözlerinin olmasını da bu yüzden şimdiden kendinize dikkat edin, sağlık ve sevgiyle kalın ve lütfen unutmayın ki;
