This was enough to alert my inquisitive nature

It was only when I walked through the area that I discovered I was in the grounds of part of Samarkand's University complex.

I now find out that these sculptures were made for:

It is aimed at preparing for the Samarkand summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which is being held in September of this year

As part of the "Samarkand rukhi" (Spirit of Samarkand) project, the "International Symposium of Sculptors" will be held in Samarkand from August 10 to September 10.

7 foreign (Russia, Iran, India, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan) and 6 local sculptors made of Zarband marble, metal at this symposium, which is organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan, the Association of Artists of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, and the Samarkand Regional Government. and they create wonderful sculptural examples in the material.

This international symposium of sculptors, which is being organized for the first time in Uzbekistan, will be held in the "Vatanparvar" park of the city of Samarkand.

There were many exhibits all different all masterpieces in their own right.

This bronze and marble structure definitely got my vote as the star of the show, the casting of the metal is pretty damned impressive.

DUH! as with most of them I failed to snap the info plate on the base, so no, nothing about the damn thing.

Ho hum. Those I did are named, with no supporting background story, sadly.

Let us therefore just admire the skill of each individual piece

The fragrance of love, like this one a lot too, I guess a lot of symbolism involved in "getting" this one.

Tree of Peace, there are 17 of these sculptures spread across the world, including in Germany, USA, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Andorra, Greece, Malta, israel et al.

LOL yup

Artistic to say the least, university appears to be relatively new in an old country which makes it a new hub for the youth to learn.

Wonder whose head it is fashioned after with chess board pieces on top, intriguing, pity you never captured the plaque, damn.... Now you have to go visit again!

The art is fascinating and always causes a bit of curiosity what they want to show us their history, these sculptors really have great skills with their hands.
