There are two botanical gardens in Kyiv which are well-known among locals and guests of the city. But in fact, there are at least 2 more of them that aren't that popular, and in vain. Today, I'll share my recent visit to one of them. It is a true gem for nature lovers!

Botanical Garden of the National University of Bioresources and Nature Management of Ukraine

It is part of a large forest massif located in the southern part of Kyiv, called Holosiivskyi forest. Its area is 4.5 thousand hectares! Believe me, you can walk here for more than one day. This forest once belonged to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, and this saved it from urban development. The botanical garden covers an area of 53 hectares, bordering the protected territory of the Holosiivskyi National Nature Park.

The buildings of the institute are located next to the botanical garden, and some buildings are located directly on its territory. I used to think that the most beautiful places to study are old buildings, such as Chernivtsi University. But after this walk, I am convinced that this is the most magical place. A place where you can experience true Zen.

Despite the fact that many townspeople do not know about its existence, the botanical garden was founded in 1926. It is because it was close for visitors since recently, as a scientific base for research by teachers and students. It was opened to visitors few years ago. Now it is open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., admission is free.

In addition to the collection of plants from around the world, which this year was replenished with rhododendrons, there are many sculptures and art objects.

2 months ago, in September 2024, the alley of carved sculptures of forest animals and birds was opened. The author is undoubtedly the talented carver Sovenko Stanislav Serhiyovych.

The forester with a rifle looks like a real man resting on a bench from afar.

Some places are still closed to outsiders, like this gallery connecting two small wooden buildings. But the wooden bridge... It may appear that it is just an art object, as well as many streams, ditches and lakes. But in fact, it is a new drainage system that withstood the downpour, when almost 18 mm of rain fell in 15 minutes.😮

I saw a few lovely outdoor audiences. And by the way, I met students, and also teachers walking along the alleys. It must be so nice to breathe fresh air during a break between classes.

And here is the place, which, I am sure, is very popular. This is a local version of the Ice Age.😍

Of course, there are more modern characters here.

Do not think that this is the end of the surprises. Suddenly, from the side deep in the trees, I saw... Yeti! He stood in front of two rows of tables, like a lecturer before an invisible audience. It's amazing!

The large comparative booth caught my attention. It tells about forest areas and growing stock in different countries. How interesting!

I couldn't resist these cute woods gabitants - wild boar, elk, deer and fox. Genuine and creative.

Sun is going down early especially after falling back from daylight savings time. A farewell look at another university building.

This monument or art object is dedicated to the members of the scientific team who died in the modern war with Russia.

And this was erected much earlier in memory of those who died in the battle with the fascists. Another reminder that history has taught modern Europe almost nothing.

I wish there was a place like this near me, everything here is set up to attract tourists and a fee is charged.

Tourists means money...
