It has been a while since a new 'Fargo' season has been released. With already season 5 being aired now, and also with a movie which already came out in 1996 (I had to look this up even, I didn't know it was that long ago already!) the concept of Fargo has been going on for years in the form of an ongoing series.
Every season in this series has a different story and a different concept, you can all watch them separately because the story does not continue. According to Wikipedia you call this an anthologieseries. This means some seasons are a lot better than other series, if you ask me.

The movie back then was also like an extended series but then in a movie form, also with a different story but with a theme on backstabbing and absurdity. For me the series is always about showing the obvious, but most of all that the series has a backdrop of an eerie snowy landscape. And with the snow also comes the weirdness, and the characters are just these typical American over-the-top weird people.
I loved watching season 1 and 2 of the series. By the time season 3 aired I was missing the concept for a bit and didn't finish the season and season 4 I watched like only a couple of minutes, it didn't do it for me.
But this is about season 5
Warning: from here on you will get spoilers from season 5!!
And season 5 feels like it is back with a vengeance! A whole new set of actors who are superb in the role that they are playing.
The story is about housewive Dorothy (Dot) who is living her super mom life in a small town worrying about mom stuff. Because of a stupid event she has to go to jail for a but and comes into the system (this part was a bit of a...where is this story heading to, I am not sure if I like it already that much) but from that moment on the series pickes up the pace.
Kidnappers are coming for Dot and even a hitman, and later on we will start to understand why everyone wants to hunt down this super-normal mom.

And that is when the real fun starts. Some scenes are just awesome action classics like you would know from the Coen brothers and other scenes are just flowing over from absurdity, like the relationship of Dot and the breakfast meal 'Brisquick'.
The whole deal about Fargo season 5 are just the characters that are all more than slightly over the top. The voice of Dot, the meanness of the mother in law, the goofyness of the husband, the mystique of the hitman, the arrogance of Gator and ofcourse the evil character of Roy. It is all there, and you can digest it like sweet pie!
The accents of the country side just flow through and ofcourse the snow and mist is back in the series as it should be, it felt like proper Fargo again!

So if you ask me, go for it again this season. And because these are all stand alone, you don't have to have watched all of the other series. Just go for it.
Expect a lot of over the top, and just let yourself get surprised. On this pace, I can't wait for season 6!
