Fargo season 5 | The Coen influence is back!

It has been a while since a new 'Fargo' season has been released. With already season 5 being aired now, and also with a movie which already came out in 1996 (I had to look this up even, I didn't know it was that long ago already!) the concept of Fargo has been going on for years in the form of an ongoing series.

Every season in this series has a different story and a different concept, you can all watch them separately because the story does not continue. According to Wikipedia you call this an anthologieseries. This means some seasons are a lot better than other series, if you ask me.

The movie back then was also like an extended series but then in a movie form, also with a different story but with a theme on backstabbing and absurdity. For me the series is always about showing the obvious, but most of all that the series has a backdrop of an eerie snowy landscape. And with the snow also comes the weirdness, and the characters are just these typical American over-the-top weird people.

I loved watching season 1 and 2 of the series. By the time season 3 aired I was missing the concept for a bit and didn't finish the season and season 4 I watched like only a couple of minutes, it didn't do it for me.

But this is about season 5

Warning: from here on you will get spoilers from season 5!!

And season 5 feels like it is back with a vengeance! A whole new set of actors who are superb in the role that they are playing.

The story is about housewive Dorothy (Dot) who is living her super mom life in a small town worrying about mom stuff. Because of a stupid event she has to go to jail for a but and comes into the system (this part was a bit of a...where is this story heading to, I am not sure if I like it already that much) but from that moment on the series pickes up the pace.

Kidnappers are coming for Dot and even a hitman, and later on we will start to understand why everyone wants to hunt down this super-normal mom.

And that is when the real fun starts. Some scenes are just awesome action classics like you would know from the Coen brothers and other scenes are just flowing over from absurdity, like the relationship of Dot and the breakfast meal 'Brisquick'.

The whole deal about Fargo season 5 are just the characters that are all more than slightly over the top. The voice of Dot, the meanness of the mother in law, the goofyness of the husband, the mystique of the hitman, the arrogance of Gator and ofcourse the evil character of Roy. It is all there, and you can digest it like sweet pie!

The accents of the country side just flow through and ofcourse the snow and mist is back in the series as it should be, it felt like proper Fargo again!

So if you ask me, go for it again this season. And because these are all stand alone, you don't have to have watched all of the other series. Just go for it.

Expect a lot of over the top, and just let yourself get surprised. On this pace, I can't wait for season 6!

The film was great, seasons 1 and 2 also, but season 3 sucked and I haven't looked at it since then.

Exactly the same here. I didnt finish season 3 and wwas very puzzled by the course.

But try this season. For real! The first episode is a bit of a wrestle but from episode 2 it is fire!

I havent watched any of the Fargo season, but you arent the first person who has said it is good.

That means the characters are deep and have personality. This is something I like, unlike series where there is no character development at all. Guess I'll add Dutch subtitles and watch t as entertainment and learning ;)

It is all about the characters indeed as the story is quite absurd, but that is also the whole deal about it.

Hahah yeah, make it a learning moment!

I watched only the season one, I don't enjoy much the season two but if you say that this season it's so nice I probably try to watch all the others seasons ❤️

Give it a try for sure! I understand what you mean about the other seasons, that is the thing when all of these seasons are standing by itself, the story doesnt always ahve to be the same quality. But this one is a good to go!

funny, just finished watching it. And as i was checking what was the 3. season about i realized i mixed up the stories and seasons (to much media). Maybe it is time for a full series rewatch.
and now that we established that my memory is not so great it could be that i don't remember the plots that well :) but it felt that previous seasons had more of a weird seemingly unrelated stuff and crazy accidents coming together at the end.

First few episodes, especially the first one felt like watching Home Alone for adults.

Overall it was interesting.

Hahaha I think I even spoke these exact words out loud with the wiring and the 'walking dead' bat with nails in it.

Yeah the previous seasons defo had a more coming together all at once kind of thing, but this was fine to me. I enjoyed watching!
