What Is GHAWG?
#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.
More details can be found in the first post of this weekly recap.

About 15 miles north & east of Cuba is Sullivan. Before reaching Sullivan we would ride past Leasburg, Bourbon, St. Cloud, & West Sullivan. Although Meramec Caverns deserves a day just for itself, it won't be part of our plans. |
---|
🏍️ Cuba is a place name no one in Felix Legion had expected to see anywhere in the United States, especially in the Midwest region of the country. As with Lebanon, Belgrade, and Paris, there are numerous place named bearing the name Cuba. 🏍️ Meramec Caverns is a system of caves a few miles off Old Route 66 near Sullivan, Missouri, US. As expected, motorcycles would have to be parked in order to spend the day touring this attraction. |

From Sullivan we ride to St. Clair, as we pass by these places along the way: Oak Grove Village, Stanton, Charmwood, & Anaconda. In St. Clair, part of Old Route 66 is overlaid by N Commercial Ave before it rejoins Interstate 44. |
---|
🏍️ This travel entry shows how existing roads interact with Old Route 66. Roads from different systems (street, county, state, Interstate) overlay parts of Old Route 66. In some places, Old Route 66 is on its own. |

Next place of note for us was Pacific. Before reaching Pacific we rode by Willa Ridge & Gray Summitt. About 10 miles north, just before reaching Pacific and north of the Missouri River & 32 miles west of St. Louis, was Defiance. |
---|
🏍️ Once again the place name Defiance appears. The first time we see this name, it was in Defiance, Ohio, US when the uncanny Manny Rey was David Guardia's co-pilot in the early stages of his Epic Ride. The second time we see this name is when Felix Legion rides along Old Route 66 through New Mexico. |

Before riding into the city of St. Louis, we rode past Route 66 State Park. Riding along what we called Old Route 66 of legend, the last time we saw a population center as big as St. Louis was all the way back in San Bernardino. |
---|
🏍️ After leaving San Bernardino, California, US, the ride along Old Route 66 was mostly through desert and sparsely populated areas; the domminant color palette featured the tan of sand. When Felix Legion rode into Oklahoma, the domminant color palette gradually changed to the green of rural areas and the greys of cities and suburbs. When Felix Legion entered Kansas, the rest of the ride would be suburban and urban. It's at this point, near the major league city of St. Louis, US, when tall buildings and skylines return to the scenery. |

I suggested to Lionel to check for rooms at the Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis. "You're sure you want us staying there?" "It would be nice; we'll never know if we don't check." We got 3 rooms at 90% off the usual rate of $700/night. |
---|
🏍️ Since St. Louis was the destination for the day's ride, Felix Legion had to find lodging. The crew couldn't spend the night in a park or on the street, and no one knew anyone in town who would let them go couch-surfing. So it was necessary to spend the night in a hotel. 🏍️ Lionel Odunsi had earned his Felix Legion moniker, Quartermaster, due to his main task: finding overnight lodging for the crew whenever possible. This task fell to him because of his status as a business major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 🏍️ This zapfic entry serves as another opportunity for David Guardia to display his short-term prophetic abilities. While there were numerous hotels of similar quality along Old Route 66-- enough to surprise us at their presence and existence-- conditions were right to let Felix Legion experience a hotel of this quality. Even the hotel where newlyweds David and Rhonda Bella Guardia spent the first days of their honeymoon wasn't anything to brag about; it was chosen due to its location near the beach. |

Before we called it a day at the Ritz-Carlton, we rode to Downtown St. Louis near the Gateway Arch National Park. Sunset was approaching, so we made sure to visit the Gateway Arch, the iconic landmark symbolic of St. Louis. |
---|
🏍️ Felix Legion did the tourist thing again, only this time it was within one of the leading cities of the nation. Paris has the Eiffel Tower. Rome has The Colosseum. New York has (among others) the Empire State Building. St. Louis has the Gateway Arch. |

Back at the Ritz-Carlton, we checked into our heavily-discounted rooms. Rhonda & I saw this as an opportunity to indulge in couples-related activities, including spa treatment & a massage. Our crypto's as good as anyone's cash. |
---|
🏍️ David and Rhonda Bella Guardia-- The Newlyweds-- take advantage of every possible opportunity to indulge in their newlywed activities, even if it's for a few hours here and there. This zapfic entry is another opportunity, in a low-key way, to show how cryptocurrency is used in a slice of life context. |

Felix Legion continues its ride east along Old Route 66. At this point, Felix Legion ends its ride through Missouri with an overnight stay in the major league city of St. Louis.
