What Is GHAWG?
#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.

🏍️ The Ritz-Carlton is one of those 5-star hotel chains, with locations in the major cities of the nation (if not the world). When GHAWG began in 2023-March-05, I had no idea that main character David Guardia would be spending time in a hotel like this, never mind the people he picked up during what would become his Epic Ride. Among those people are the 2 foreign exchange students from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Sanjay Rampersad from India and Lionel Odunsi from Nigeria. Even though it's true that many foreign students attending college in the United States come from well-to-do families, that doesn't mean they end up spending money to say at a hotel of the caliber of a Ritz-Carlton.

🏍️ This is the first zapfic entry in a series featuring the Brothers Marchenko and Lindsay Etxeberria discussing (in the year 2028) the origins of inflation in 2021. It's based on my own perceptions on what caused the economic woes afflicting us today. It's also the first time I separate the circulation of excess USD from the aggravation caused by a restrictive energy policy. Even if oil production in the US is at an ATH, getting that oil to market has been hampered by a regulatory regime meant to hamper the availability of that oil. Inflation made prices higher, and a decrease in supply added insult to injury. The rest of this Weekly Summary includes parts of this discussion, which goes into the next Weekly Summary.

🏍️ This is the beginning of the Q&A session Lindsay Etxeberria is having with The Twins regarding inflation. The excess money isn't coming from people who were saving cash under the mattress. It's not comming from people having garage sales. It's not even coming from sales of overpriced art by scions from political dynasties. It's coming from the central bank.

🏍️ Lindsay Etxeberria knew enough to report what {{The Fed}} had been doing with the Federal Reserve Notes we know colloquially as USD. The unprecedented amounts of USD entered the economy courtesy of congressional legislation signed into law. Frank was about the begin to explain the exacerbating factor in the high prices which became the norm in the 2020s.

🏍️ This is where I realized that high prices are not the same as inflated prices. While excess currency units reset the price level higher, numerous factors affecting supply and demand bumped already higher prices higher still. Not mentioned in the discussion were factors such as war: specifically, the war between Ukraine and Russia caused a worldwide shortage of fertilizer, and that impacted the food chain around the world. Inflation may not be responsible for the UA-RU war, but it set off a cascade of unpredictable effects we're dealing with in 2026.

🏍️ When it comes to fashion, certain byproducts of the petroleum refining process made possible the creation of materials such as polyester and rayon. Without refined petroleum, "skinny jeans" would be difficult to impossible to make. When it comes to transportation, there would be no diesel fuel or jet fuel without the byproducts of refined petroleum. As for banking, credit cards require plastic, and plastic comes from oil (refined petroleum byproducts).

🏍️ The laws of supply and demand always affect our activities, and they always existed; human beings only discovered these laws. If we obey these laws, we have order and prosperity in the economic sphere. If we attempt to override these laws with warped policies and ideas, then the result will be pain and suffering for masses of people. If these warped policies and ideas persist long enough, not even their champions escape the pain and suffering they unleased on the rest of us.
