In February the @buildawhale burn posts have burned over $14,000 USD worth of Hive & HBD tokens. Lots of tribe tokens (LEO, STEM, SPORTS, etc) were also burned but I don't keep track of that as there is no eay way to do it.
The exact numbers were 6,449.20 HBD & 20,299.09 Hive.
I get asked all the time what the posts are for, the answer is simple. It provides another option for stake holders to direct inflation on a regular basis.
There are currently four options available to stake holders.
- Curate content
- Vote HBD.Funder posts (distributes to DHF)
- Vote Burn Posts (distributes to @null, and removes from circulation)
- Not vote (net zero change, just you have no say in where inflation goes)
You can also choose to do some combination of the above.
I think a lot of people forget if everyone stoped voting, a single account with just 1 HP can direct all of the inflation. These choices above do not change how many rewards are distributed, just directs them to specific accounts.
Any layer 1 tokens (HBD & Hive) directed to @null gets removed from circulation each block. Hive Engine however does not do this, so @null will hold all the Hive Engine tokens sent to @null forever. In fact, Hive Engine can even power up tokens to @null which I think is kind of odd.
Voting the burn posts will still allow you to earn your normal curation rewards, only the author rewards are burned.
