Real Venezuelan Money - 2 Bolivars (1960)

in #hive-1679222 years ago

I have been enjoying the past few days on my summer house once again, spending most of the time on the beach or drinking and eating. It's a great place to spend August, while all vacation rentals are super expensive due to the peak of tourism. I'll just wait for mid September to visit an island or something when everything is super cheap, yet the weather still feels like summer :)

Anyways, holidays or not, shit posting must continue so I brought with me some of my recent silver acquisitions from Venezuela to show off. Some real venezuelan money, not the hyperinflation bs they have these days!

So let's start with a 2 Bolívares from 1960s. Let's see the coin:

On the front we have a portrait of a sexy old dude, Mr. Simón Bolívar:

Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar y Palacios (24 July 1783 – 17 December 1830) was a Venezuelan military and political leader who led what are currently the countries of Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia to independence from the Spanish Empire. He is known colloquially as El Libertador, or the Liberator of America source and more info

This side reads BOLÍVAR LIBERTADOR for Bolivar Liberator

Let's see the other side:

Here we have the Venezuelan Coat of arms, the value, the date and something I have rarely seen in other coins. The weight and fineness of the coin!

Specifically, it reads REPÚBLICA DE VENEZUELA 2 BOLÍVARES 1960 GR.10.LEI.835 for Venezuela Republic 2 Bolivares 1960 10 grams 0.835.

So, that's exactly 8.35 g of silver! Easy math 😂

Let's now see the edge:

Nothing special here!

As always, a bit more info from numista:

With current silver prices, this coin has about 5 $ worth of silver. I wonder what I can buy with that in Venezuela. Maybe a house? 🤔😂

Very nice history

I like the guys pose and may be I will just adopt the name El Libertadores.

I cant remember the first time I heard El libertadores. I think a south American football competition.

Anyways I like the man's pose

Somewhere I read it could be a good investment to buy a property in Venezuela. In 10 or 20 years it could be another history!
Nice description of this silver coin. It shows a little pass of history.

You have me beat. I don’t own any coins from Venezuela. Nice show, enjoy the beach

Sounds like you have things pretty good right now. Enjoy the rest of your summer holiday! That's another nice coin. A bit dirty and beat-up, but hey, silver is silver, eh?

Mr international silver out here

Are these coins still in use as means of currency?

I bet this coin could buy a decent steak dinner for four people in 1960.
PD

Another sweet Venezuelan 2 Bolivar. I have the same coin somewhere in my stack. If history ever matched Bolivar and Napoleon face to face it would be the ultimate RISK board game match up.

Lmao

Are those like quarters?
Very nice, @trumpman !
Stack on!!!

No idea 😂

putting the weight and purity on your silver coin is like wearing pants with the length of your ding dong on them

Hmmmm.... Not a bad idea !

I'm a low key genius I know :P

Good luck using that in Venezuela. I don't even know how you would calculate prices when fiat is out of control there.

They have silver in them so I don’t believe he would wanna spend it 😄

Yeah, not anytime soon. Eventually it will pass to the next generation unless a really rainy day comes first!

The Silver coin is nice. Venezuelan Silver with some copper makes it so durable !

Thanks again for showing the Treasure, @trumpman. Silver is getting ready to make its move.

Real money, a thing of the past.
I didn’t know that he liberated all those countries!
So do they all have his likeness on their money?
That would be a cool collection: South American Simon Bolivar Coins!

The dude really look sexy on that coin

maybe not a house, but a party night with paid female friends and white powder.

Like the Bezos of Venezuela.

I'd take that 😂😂😂

wanna book the "fun" or the "fun +" package for your Venezuela travel?

It looks like your coin allows you also to use the platinum female friends service.

We from Venezuela travel recommend buying them all.

You could buy the entire country with that coin

Lmao

Why the fuck is that guys hair combed forward!? Maybe next week take a vacation from shitposting!

🤣

I like the coat of arm struck on this coin, it has all the green things around it, and inside a tribal headdress with leaves is visible to recognize, and there is a sword holder showing 2 swords crossing each other. The horse is a badass mustang btw. 😉

BTW this dude on the coin is not that old just 53 years does not sound that old. 😆

You can't buy a house with that, but you can buy a pickaxe for gold mining in Venezuela for sure. 🤠

Another nice silver piece :)

But this got me thinking about whether people are selling hyperinflated banknotes with huge numbers on them to international collectors online.

We saw Zimbabwean banknotes worth under 1c selling for $10+ online because those overseas wanted to feel the buzz of owning a trillion dollar note haha.

Is this happening in Venezuela too?

I know I would buy a kilo of Venezuelan money for a few bucks just for the lulz

A kilo?!

You're wild haha.

Just the 1 for the cabinet (the lightest one I can find) will do me ;)

Last time I went to Venezuela was in the nineties and I brought back a Kilo alright but alas I was a crazy MoFo in my twenties :)

Haven’t touched those kilos in decades but I love my gold kilo :) only got one and I love it.

  • speaking on a personal basis not as the Fed

Doubtful that’s happening with these notes. Unless it’s a special case item like a misprint or rare mistake or something.
