It was an odd sort of tea party, Homer pig felt
He didn't like to say anything, as it wasn't his teaparty after all.
Homer looked askance at Aloysius Otter, wondering if he'd say anything
It was hard to steal a glance over a tea cup, particularly when one had to hold tea cups in one's mouth, not having proper hands.
Meanwhile Pip the Frenchie tried not to stare at Homer, in an inquisitive way
He looked questioningly at Homer pig, not able to touch his tea.
He didn't like to say anything about his not having a cup, but the hot tea smelled so strong and good, tho there seemed to be Only tea...He cleared his throat , lest his stare gave away his surprise.
Aloysius finally could take no more had had to speak up. He was, afterall, the more forward of the group
"I say, Homer, haven't you brought anything to this tea? Not even a cream bun?"
Homer pig snorted in surprise, spilling tea out of his cup, held sideways in his mouth.
"And how, prey, is Pip to have any tea at all? if there is only 2 cups?"
Pip Frenchie snorted again, not wanting to draw attention to it.
"Well," began Homer Pig, recovering from his spill, " I thought this all a rather rum idea, this slap together tea party in the woods by the stream, I'd much rather be back in my delicious warm barn. And anyway, I brought the Teapot full." Which he had done.
"And I've brought my own 2 cups," said Aloysius otter, "thinking someone would have brought some delicious deadlies and even a cucumber sandwich or two. "
They both looked at Pip Frenchie, who seemd even more taken aback, "Well," said he, finally speaking up, "I thought I was being invited TO a tea party as a guest, I hardly thought to carry tea things and sweet and savory treats upon my back into th woodland. It's not my usual place"
It was true and both Homer and Aloysius knew Pip's "place" was more often upon plumped pillows and soft sofas in the large farm house.
"Ah well, here we are then, let's make the best of it," Said Homer pig, nuzzling his teacup off it's saucer giving the saucer to Pip to drink from. "Surely we could have some lovely berries as well" and he snorted about for fresh raspberries.
"It's not quite sardines on toast", came Aloysius as he dove into the stream coming up with a fish in his mouth, "But this'll have to do for our savory"
The trio laughed at that and went about gathering this and that and spent the afternoon sipping tea and reminiscing over tea parties in their past.
I hope you enjoyed the little story that was in my head as I created this odd characters having an even odder tea party.
My work began as a sketch scanned then I inked it digitally
Before using digital oil pastels I under paint in blocks of color.
Here's a fun little Gif of it's layers.
Then each character gets a few layers each of Oil pastel, it's one of my favorite digital medium when doing my animal characters. I love the rough strokes it gives and how you can build up texture with the varying tones of similar color.
Then a background color, in this case a nice mellow yellow just on the side of Spring Green to compliment the blues and pinks and it's done.
I hope you enjoyed my Odd little tea party. I also hope you get a moment in your day to indulge in your own passions or at the very least to have your own little odd tea party; And remember to stay creative.
