parkrun 51: Sun and mud

in #hive-1768533 years ago

The weather has been mixed lately. It had been quite sunny, but then it rained again yesterday. So I was expecting there could be some mud at Henlow Bridge Lakes. It was a nice morning today as I jogged down there. At the place I enter the site there were a couple of trucks and some guys working on the power lines to the camp site. They had churned the mud up a bit and we had to divert around them. I wandered up to the start and there was nobody there about 15 minutes before kickoff. I did a little jog around the corner and confirmed the quagmire was still there. It was going to be a matter of just ploughing through it.

I did not set off too quickly, but the runners soon got quite spread out. Afterwards the guy who finished just ahead of me said he thought I would pass him on the first lap, but I did not have the energy. I just did my own thing and kept him in view.

Route

My pace varied a bit, but then there was the mud to get through. Overall it was not too bad. Any time I finish in under 27 minutes is okay. I came 18th, but it was a smaller field than usual. We really need more people participating, but it is not near to a large town. Most will have to drive there. I will see if I can get more local runners along.

I thought I could wear the colours of the Ukrainian flag to show support. I spoke to a guy who had a yellow and blue shirt and had thought the same thing. My parents own a property in Italy that they will make available to refugees if required.

Colours

I will volunteer again soon as that gives others a chance to run. Nobody is getting paid to be there, but I think it does a lot of good keeping spirits up.

Cool about the Italy property being made available. It seems anything is possible at the moment, with the lockdowns, invasions, shortages of nearly every item needed to survive.. Crazy world we live in!

If there is a side effect of more people doing nice things then that's something. We cannot afford to be so selfish on a finite world. All we do affects others.

Cool to see others wearing the colours to support Ukraine as well! You did well considering there was mud, I hate running in mud because I always skitter about

It's really just a short stretch of ankle deep mud and the rest is okay. I slow down a bit to get through that safely. Would hate to slip over in it.

There do seem to be a lot of us older guys at parkrun. Beating the young'uns in some cases.

Nice idea on the colours -- your pace is pretty good for someone who didn't feel they were on full energy!

That's great man 5km in 26 minutes, you'll do alright during the zombie apocalypse haha and it's a nice touch to where the Ukrainian flag in solidarity.

Me and a friend started to do some long walks around my town, trying to burn some weight before summer and also just to get outside.

Walking is good exercise too. I have found from running that I know my neighbourhood much better now.

I'd like to use the long walks to build up to maybe trying to jog or run. Maybe by April I could try jogging, we've been doing just shy of 10km in under 2 hours, in fairness though we take about 2 breaks along the walk so I think we could speed up the amount of time it takes us without the breaks.

I downloaded two different step counting apps to try and help track ourselves.

Have you used @actifit? May as well earn something from your walks. I need to get back to more cycling as I can explore further that way. Lots of back lanes and cross country tracks around here.

Hey @steevc, you just received 100 AFIT tip from @kpreddy!

I haven't is that an app? I thought it was the name of a community on here.

I assume there is still an app. I used it ages ago. I see a lot of people post with it.

Oh Yes! We have a great community and atleast 400 people are posting their activity through @actifit Application (iOS and Android) daily and earning rewards in STEEM,HIVE,SPORTS,BLURT,AFIT . Actifit is on 4 Blockchains: Steemit,Hive,Blurt,BSC and hopefully may support one more blockchain soon. You can even integrate Fitbit bands into app for posting your daily activity. If not Fitbit application simply tracks activity using sensors. Lot of interesting things about Utility of AFIT,AFITX and Actifit is going to go places in future 😄💪. I suggest you to check out actifit.io or defi.actifit.io for more information.
