Gratitude is the memory of the heart....Jean Baptiste
Indeed there are a lot of things that I am grateful for. A song writer wrote "count your blessings, name them one by one". I believe that doing so literally will help us have an idea of the multiple blessings that come our way.
Things I am grateful for
First of all, my gratitude would not make sense if I am not grateful for the gift of life. Life is a gift and everytime I wake up to a new dawn, I count it all joy and I'm so grateful for being alive.
I am also grateful for my little family, comprising of myself, my teenage daughter and my two younger siblings. I am grateful that we are all complete, hale and hearty. This year, from January till date, no one has been hospitalized and no one has had to suffer a loss. I am also grateful for my two other siblings who are not living with me but they are working in other cities as well because the same good report I receive anytime I call them.
I am also grateful for the progress of my job and the rewards that I have been reaping so far. I am an educationist and I not only teach in a school, I also carry out private tutoring for interested students within the primary level. Two of such students under my private tutoring were in their final classes in primary school and they were set to sit for the common entrance examinations which would determine their entry into secondary school.
I remember putting these students through tough tutoring to get them prepared for the exam and finally in July, they sat for the examination and came out smiling. When I asked them why they were smiling, they both said that they found the exams easy because all I took them on during the tutorials came out and they were able to answer the questions easily. This gladened my heart a lot because it showed that my effort was not in vain.
Speaking of rewards, the parent of one student sent me a cash gift in addition to my fee, just to say thank you. The second stufents family got me a gift and I was left speechless. They bought me new shoes and even added a thank you card to it plus cash gift as well. Hmm, indeed I have a lot to be grateful for.
I am grateful for the beautiful lives that I have been privileged to bring into my circle this year. Yes, my circle of friends increased with genuine souls who are constantly pushing me to become better.
I am also grateful for how far I have come and for the little goals that I was able to achieve so far. Believe me when I say that living in my countryat this time is not a joke. From the beginning of this year, it has been tough o, with the very high cost of food items, high transportation fares and costly fuel, all these has madr living difficult. So many persons have turned to various illegal means just for survival. The crime rate is now on the high side.
A man that lived two houses away from my compound, woke up last week Monday and was crying. When people asked him what happened, he said that his two smart phones and cash of seventy thousand was stolen from his room. The thieves got in through his bedroom window because it had no burglary proof. I stood in shock as I listened to this grown man crying. To still be living right now is a miracle.
I have a lot to be grateful for but I will pause here as I leave you all with this thought provoking quote below...
"Showing gratitude is one of the simplest yet most
powerful things humans can do for each other."
- Randy Pausch
