The fantastic Pena Palace in Sintra, Portugal

in #hive-178708last year

Hello archi lovers!

Architecture is art and for centuries wonderful works have been created, some inspiring constructions, full of beauty, have left an imprint on all who have witnessed them. In addition, there are times when its design has gone further, turning the construction itself into pure fantasy.

And that seems to be the place that I want to share with all of you this time, the Pena Palace in Sintra, a town very close to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. And this city turns out that thanks to said palace it has become the most visited place in the country, incredible (that's what they told me when I asked to climb to the top). But it is a magical place, different, curious, full of charm and an unique design.

It is a national palace, from the 19th century more or less, full of history, the Portuguese royal families lived in these places... there is a lot to tell but the first thing that catches your attention when you arrive is that there are a lot of people in the town. And that is due to tourism, it is a very special place and it is impossible not to visit it if you are nearby.

As soon as we arrive we cannot stop looking up, at the top of the mountain appears a place that could be the scene of any fantasy movie. An enchanted palace? Due to its colorful, crazy, romantic, eclectic and heterogeneous design, it could be many things.

It is a palace, a palace with history, a stone palace, a palace with towers and windows, arches and great doors, but it is not like any other palace you have seen. Have you seen any palace with similar lively colors on its walls?

Possibly seeing it like this on high, imposing and standing out from all the lush nature that surrounds it impresses. In fact it is much more attractive from the outside, inside it is more interesting in terms of history and period decorations, but like many other places, on the other hand, its exterior is simply unique.

Note: to enter you have to be patient, there are a lot of people, you have to queue, the tickets are expensive, and you also have to count on the time you have to see everything or not everything.

An orgy of disparate styles that converge, as if it were a kind of architectural collage, and a cheerful design, full of different ornaments, scrolls left and right, Arab arches, romantic towers, variegated battlements, avant-garde colors, etc. It has everything, everything you want to see and more.

And there is more to see, around the palace itself, the gardens, actually there are other palaces in use also in the lower part, Sintra has a lot to see in a small space. But even up the mountain, the gardens where kings walked, with nice period booths between lakes and trees give the place a romantic, bucolic, charming and mysterious atmosphere.

A place to walk, and also to enjoy the views, because among so much greenery and foliage we find some other construction of the complex.

Even the way back if we walk down, in an intense walk it is interesting although you have to also look at the sky but as you go down the whole castle walls appear again at the top. What would it have been like to build all that impressive palace so original, fun and different up there?

And we are missing some more buildings, hidden among more forests, other nearby gardens in fact it's a National Park, there is so much to explore. But without a doubt, this fantastic and fanciful construction of a fairy tale is something that we cannot forget. A stone fantasy come true, made architecture.

No doubt it is beautiful. I have never seen a palace up close. Europe is beautiful, with many castles and magical places. This palace is a place worth enjoying.

Thanks! It's impressive, and I didn't want to make this too long just to highlight that vision when you arrive and see the magical walls. Love it and love all the beautiful palaces! True in Europe there are a lot, all charming and special, I saw many different, also here close, hope to see more, hope you too someday! 🤗

Hello @duvinca. Impressive fortress! You're right, the Pena Palace looks like a fantastical castle plucked out from a fairy tale book! Since it was completed during the ancient era, I could imagine the challenging methods executed to construct a colossal structure on a mountaintop. With their primitive building technology, it must have been a struggle, right? Its vibrant colors are eye-catching and easily attract the attention of passersby. A must-visit landmark indeed! 👍😊

Hello my friend! Thanks a lot! Well in my opinion this is the most impressive place in Portugal, I didn't visit the whole country but as far as I know, and I saw (Lisbon, capital, surroundings and some other cities). Also when I was writing that it is located on the top of a mountain I thought about the construction process because it's high really, I descended on foot, mountain down and the walk was long, even like this (shorter than the shorter than the winding road around the mountain where the cars go up). I presume that was not easy to be built but the result is stunning because the decoration and style are unique, never saw those colors and that mix of different styles together. A great visit, really worthy 😊👍 Happy day and thank you again dear Erne! @storiesoferne

Absolutely my friend @duvinca. It's an incredibly stunning palace, no wonder it's a popular destination in Portugal. And yes, because of its elevated location, building it wasn't easy, most probably. Nevertheless, the final results speak for themselves. It's simply a captivating landmark to behold! Happy Tuesday! 😊👍

What a beautiful place! Thanks for sharing, I'll have to make a point to visit.

Thanks! Absolutely recommended if you go one time to Portugal it's worthy (very close to the capital so easy to go there). 😊

wow, that's really a very extraordinary palace, I was impressed to see it. Moreover, the palace stands on a high mountain

Yes absolutely it is, very special and not easy to build all that on the top of a mountain, really a worthy visit! Thanks!

The palace has a great design and vibrant colors, being located on a hill I imagine it took a long time to build, it was a great job to upload the necessary materials for its construction, it looks like something out of a fairy tale, plus so many decorative details that they capture the attention of the visitor and it is impossible not to admire their beauty.

Visiting this castle must be a nice experience, it has all the necessary elements for a fun tour full of color and contact with nature.

Regards @duvinca!

Yes I was thinking the same about materiales... not easy to carry all to that place even now the access is hard, you need a car or bus, because it's a long way up. When I finished I decided to come back to the town on foot mountain down there is some shortcut but you need to be careful at some point and look well to the ground.

But obviously the visit is worthy, the most interesting place to see in this country, a really fairy tale colorful palace!

Thanks really dear @belkyscabrera for your nice comment 🥰

This building looks like something out of a fairy tale. Very nice. Thank you for sharing these photos with us

Yeah exactly it's like a fairy tale scenery, very original, it seems the old kings there had special taste for design 😊
