Hello archi lovers!
Architecture is art and for centuries wonderful works have been created, some inspiring constructions, full of beauty, have left an imprint on all who have witnessed them. In addition, there are times when its design has gone further, turning the construction itself into pure fantasy.
And that seems to be the place that I want to share with all of you this time, the Pena Palace in Sintra, a town very close to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. And this city turns out that thanks to said palace it has become the most visited place in the country, incredible (that's what they told me when I asked to climb to the top). But it is a magical place, different, curious, full of charm and an unique design.
It is a national palace, from the 19th century more or less, full of history, the Portuguese royal families lived in these places... there is a lot to tell but the first thing that catches your attention when you arrive is that there are a lot of people in the town. And that is due to tourism, it is a very special place and it is impossible not to visit it if you are nearby.
As soon as we arrive we cannot stop looking up, at the top of the mountain appears a place that could be the scene of any fantasy movie. An enchanted palace? Due to its colorful, crazy, romantic, eclectic and heterogeneous design, it could be many things.
It is a palace, a palace with history, a stone palace, a palace with towers and windows, arches and great doors, but it is not like any other palace you have seen. Have you seen any palace with similar lively colors on its walls?
Possibly seeing it like this on high, imposing and standing out from all the lush nature that surrounds it impresses. In fact it is much more attractive from the outside, inside it is more interesting in terms of history and period decorations, but like many other places, on the other hand, its exterior is simply unique.
Note: to enter you have to be patient, there are a lot of people, you have to queue, the tickets are expensive, and you also have to count on the time you have to see everything or not everything.
An orgy of disparate styles that converge, as if it were a kind of architectural collage, and a cheerful design, full of different ornaments, scrolls left and right, Arab arches, romantic towers, variegated battlements, avant-garde colors, etc. It has everything, everything you want to see and more.
And there is more to see, around the palace itself, the gardens, actually there are other palaces in use also in the lower part, Sintra has a lot to see in a small space. But even up the mountain, the gardens where kings walked, with nice period booths between lakes and trees give the place a romantic, bucolic, charming and mysterious atmosphere.
A place to walk, and also to enjoy the views, because among so much greenery and foliage we find some other construction of the complex.
Even the way back if we walk down, in an intense walk it is interesting although you have to also look at the sky but as you go down the whole castle walls appear again at the top. What would it have been like to build all that impressive palace so original, fun and different up there?
And we are missing some more buildings, hidden among more forests, other nearby gardens in fact it's a National Park, there is so much to explore. But without a doubt, this fantastic and fanciful construction of a fairy tale is something that we cannot forget. A stone fantasy come true, made architecture.
