Last year, I have been echoing several times on this Blockchain that the output from my farm wasn't that encouraging. It was not something to be happy about. That does not mean that I have not been careful (or maybe I wasn't). But the truth remains that from the same farm and with the same techniques, I have been having good harvest before. I could remember the beans, the maize, the groundnuts, the potatoes and the yam. We have gotten some good return from that in previous years.
When I reflected on the year that I had a good harvest, I discovered that there were certain measures I took that enhanced my getting the outcome I had.
That year I had planted my crops before the rain retained in July. So, the rain actually wetted the crops very well.
Last year, the rainfall was not sufficient. The crops suffered insufficient rainfall. That, I believe had contributed to the low output
This year, I'm planning to prepare my ground early so that I will be able to plant the seeds and seedlings as soon as the rain starts. Beginning to plan the preparation of the farmland after the rain starts usually takes some time out of the rainy days.
Today, I went to the farm to start cultivating the land. I will plant yam now but I will wait till when the rain comes before planting other crops. I took these pictures while working on the farm.
