Chickpeas and rice is a nutritious and comforting dish made from split chickpeas and rice, often cooked with various spices and sometimes vegetables. Here is a simple recipe you can try. It is easy to make and very tasty. You can make it once a week; I usually prepare it at night.
#Ingredients:
- Chana dal - 1 cup
- Rice - 1 cup
- Onions - 2 (chopped)
- Chilies - as per your spice preference
- Garlic - a few cloves (crushed)
- Ginger - 1 small piece (crushed)
- Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
Instructions:
- First, soak the dal and rice for about 5 minutes.
- Chop the onions, and crush the garlic and ginger.
- Take a pressure cooker, heat it up, and add cumin and seeds and chilli. When the cumin seeds start to crackle, add the onions.
- Add the crushed garlic and ginger, and sauté on low heat for about 3 minutes.
5.Once the onions are browned, add the red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Then add the soaked rice and dal, and sauté for another minute
- Add 2 glasses of water and close the pressure cooker. Cook on low heat until one whistle. Turn off the heat after the first whistle.
