IS PRAYING ALONE ENOUGH TO GET CLOSER TO GOD?
It’s not enough to just pray when we need something from God. Prayer is important, but we also have to put in the effort to back it up. The Bible says in
James 2:26, “Faith without works is dead,”
which means you can’t just hope for things to happen, you have to take action too. Sitting around and waiting won’t get you anywhere.
God doesn’t reward laziness.
Proverbs 19:15 says, “Laziness brings on deep sleep, and an idle person will go hungry.”
2 Thessalonians 3:10, it says, “If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.”
These verses remind us that God expects us to do our part. If we’re not willing to work, how can we expect Him to answer our prayers? Blessings come when we put in the effort.
Think about the story of the widow in 2 Kings 4:1–7. Her creditors were about to take her sons because she couldn’t pay her debts. She went to the prophet Elisha, and he asked her, “What do you have in your house?” She said she only had a small jar of oil. Elisha told her to borrow empty jars from her neighbors and pour the oil into them. She did, and God multiplied the oil until she had more than enough to pay off her debt. This shows that God works with what we have when we’re willing to put in the effort.
At the end of the day, faith and action go together.
Proverbs 10:4 says, “Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.”
If we sit back and do nothing, we’re closing the door on the blessings God has for us. But when we take action, even with the little we have, God can turn it into something amazing.
