Just Another Boring Painting of Peace

Ennui Design 2024. Acrylic on cardboard, 16 x 16"

I spent an hour or two in the late afternoon making a painting to while away a dull sunny day. Happily, I finished and went outside into the light and listened to the summer sounds of birds and breeze through the trees. White, puffy clouds in the bimini blue sky. Skylarking with a tall beer and wonderful peace. You can be bored out of your mind and completely satisfied in the present moment, all in the same afternoon.
Human being is a good thing.
Now if we can just let go after castrating the power systems...

When not painting or enjoying nature’s beauty, I could opt to follow Van’s advice on a slow do-nothing day:

Love that song by Van the Man!♥️

Great album. Hope after 50:)

Awesome album indeed. I double checked and Van hit 50, the year that album came out. In all honesty, he already sounded like an old man, in his early 20s. I guess some people have old souls ;<)

I prefer his later stuff, post 1990. Especially recordings since 2018. I believe poets, painters, song-writers can improve with age, as long as they’re committed. And that’s the hard part. So many who get big, just can’t find the will to push through creatively. Resting on laurels comes easy to those with laurels. Van is an anomaly.

I see two very different human conditions here. The leftmost being seems to be beaten down, by either ennui or the rightmost being, who in turn seems to embody that feeling you describe in

completely satisfied in the present moment

The repetition of yin/yang on the head of one (like a headache) and the back of the other (like wings), is cool. One person's trash is another's treasure kind of thing. The square shapes on the leftmost being imply imprisonment to me. These break into curves on the rightmost being, implying flexibility, freedom.

I really like this one. There's a lot to think about in it.

I've been sitting on my porch on this dull rainy morning, eating cookies to sate my sweets addiction, and watching this lovely rain fall.

I’m glad you find these rainy summer days lovely. I do too.
Although I don’t have a sweet tooth.

That is some excellent interpretation. You have the yin/yang spot on, and the ennui fella. The rest is all you. Thank you for giving life to my colored cardboard:)
