Hello Hivians and all you beer lovers. Welcome to a new month!
Lovers month ~ Well we are in the beer lovers community so let's kick of February with possibly our greatest love ~ Beer🍻!
When I was in St Andrews recently and made this post Blackfriars Chapel and West Port Gate in St Andrews Scotland I posted this picture ...
@asiaymalay in the comments asked ...
But what about the BrewDog?
Well today we visit a BrewDog beer. Being that we are in the Valentine's month then appropriately there is a heart in the name!
The beer in question is black (well almost) and a stout!
Three of my favourite flavours are coffee, dark chocolate and beer.
Now with BrewDog Black Heart Stout I get to taste all 3!
I poured my HEART OUT
Those pictures were from a pack of 4 440ml cans I bought on Thursday. Rangers were playing in Europe and I have a habit of drinking a pint or two while I listen to the match.
The cardboard box as well as each can had simple KISS directions of how to pour the drink...
So this was my attempt.
How do you think I was doing?
The final result ~ A glass of BREWDOG BLACK HEART
My verdict
I love smooth and tasty beers. It is also fair to say that I have sunk a fair few pints of Guinness in my time.
But being Scottish I have to try Brewdog Black Heart Stout as they are Scottish afterall.
It did promise velvet smooth and creamy, cocoa and espresso together with being distinctly dark.
As you can see from the pictures it was distinctly dark and creamy.
I was somewhat dubious about the directions. Normally I angle my glass when I pour a beer into it. But this is draught stout and there seem to all sorts of widgets on the go now.
Bottom line was that the directions were fluffing spot on!
Smooth damn right it was! I got the hints of cocoa and coffee.
In short it was damn tasty and I would recommend to anyone who loves dark beers, you will love this!
Steak and Ale Pie
One of my favourite pub meals is a steak and ale pie. This would often be a steak and Guinness pie. So although the beer in this case was in the glass it was still a steak pie and ale meal.
It was a match made in heaven!
They went so good together!
Another match in heaven is The Europa Cup and my team Rangers.
We started the night in 13th place but we won and results went our way, and we qualified in the top 8 so don't have to play a playoff match!
A brilliant night!
The Stats - Black Heart
BrewDog brews Black Heart.
So who are BrewDog?
BewDog are a Scottish brewery founded in Fraserburgh in 2007 and are now headquartered in Ellon. They were initially known for their punk-inspired branding and strong-flavored beers. They expanded globally with bars and breweries worldwide.
But they are also for being right balshy bastards and although they say ...
They were in the media a fair few times for the way they treated some of their employees.
Who am to judge.
I do know that Black Heart is typical of their bold, unconventional approach to brewing.
The deets
Note these are summarised from my Gemini AI account.
Style: Stout
ABV (Alcohol by Volume): 4.1% it was 4.5% but the alcohol pricing laws have many beers have been watered down!
IBU (International Bitterness Units): BrewDog doesn't always publicize the IBU, but stouts tend to be lower than IPAs. Expect a balanced bitterness, not overly aggressive.
Colour: Very dark, almost black.
Flavour Profile: Roasted malt flavors are dominant, often with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and sometimes a hint of smoke. It's generally drier than some sweeter stouts.
Mouthfeel: Relatively smooth but not as creamy as some stouts, like Guinness.
Aroma: Similar to the flavor profile, with roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate notes.
As for hops, that was elusive to find but Gemini reckons Simcoe is the primary hop used in Black Heart.
Posting about a beer on a Saturday on the Beer Community ....
Cheers with the Black Heart!
It's a whole bunch of fun, so check out The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 396 from the one and only @detlev.
