Loving my Level Head in Leven 🏴 on Beer 🍺 Saturday
It's another week so another beer! So what treat have I got in store for you this week?
Of course the clue is in the title!
We are in a town called Leven in the Kingdom of Fife. I hadn't been here in a couple of years and here I was visiting twice in two days on business!
So after business was finished on the second day we went to the Caledonian Hotel on the High St of Leven.
Did you read the card on the table ....
Book A Table To Guarantee Your Seat.
Well with Christmas coming and being the weekend, I got on the app and made a quick table reservation.
We will get to the beer in a minute.
First though, take a moment to look at the glass.
It was a pint and a chunky branded glass.
I like the Kings head floating....
In a way it reminded me of King Robert the Bruce's head ... which I have included here. You can see this reconstruction if you visit Dunfermline Abbey!
I wrote about it in Dunfermline - Home of the Scottish Kings 🏴
But the beer ....
Welcome to LEVEL HEAD
We shall talk about the stats in a wee while, but suffice to say this is a tasty IPA.
You might remember the location photo had Greene King on it, and Level Head is a Greene King Brewery beer..
Level Head is quite simply a perfectly executed session IPA
So says Greene King themselves
Now I am writing this and thinking yeah it may well be his head floating!
Who knows lol.
But what about the food ...
Good beer and a good steak makes for a good day!
I did keep a level head while ordering and of course drinking!
Of course the level did drop as time went on!
But the steak, it was a wee rump steak cooked medium rare and it really was bang on!
A seriously tasty bit of beef.
I even tried to show you my level fingers!
Okay okay enough with the level stuff!
It was a tasty pint, and yes they had it on tap.
But stuff to do meant leaving, but talk about a cute tree, and yes it is Christmas time!
What about the Stats....
A nod to the legend of our very own St Edmund, this hoppy, sessionable IPA invites you to keep it steady, just like Eddie.
Beheaded by Vikings in 869, his head was miraculously reunited with its body by a ghostly wolf, and his sainthood assured.
So there you go, steady Eddie got his head @deraaa
Level Head is brewed by Greene King in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England. It was first brewed in 2019 as part of a range of beers celebrating Greene King's 200-year history and the history of Bury St Edmunds.
The beer is named after St Edmund, whose head was miraculously reattached to his body after he was beheaded by Vikings.
Level Head is a 4% ABV session IPA
Characteristics provided by my Gemini AI account...
Appearance: Pale golden colour, slightly hazy as it's unfiltered.
Aroma: Hoppy, with a balance of tropical fruit (like mango and passionfruit) and grapefruit notes. You might also detect some herbal and citrus aromas.
Taste: The tropical and grapefruit flavours come through, with a medium bitterness. It's light-bodied and slightly dry, with a pithy aftertaste.
Overall: A well-balanced and easy-drinking session IPA, perfect for those who enjoy hoppy beers but don't want something too strong.
My Verdict
I enjoyed it and would have again with or without food! It is only 4% so not a strong pint, but I could detect the grapefruit perhaps as I love grapefruit.
It was golden and I have to agree, it was easy to drink!
Posting about a beer on a Saturday on the Beer Community ....
It's a whole bunch of fun, so check out The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 388 from the one and only @detlev.
This #BeerSaturday week I would like to invite @brando28 to share a beer🍻
