Hello hive fam!
I hope you’re all doing great. This week has been exciting for music lovers, especially for those of us who enjoy Afrobeats. Two new songs dropped on Friday, and of course, I had to check them out. Today, I’ll be sharing my honest thoughts on Rema’s "Baby" and Odumodu’s new track featuring Victony. Let’s get into it!
Rema – Baby(is it a crime)
First off, let’s talk about "Baby" by Rema. If you’ve been following Rema for a while, you probably know this song had been leaked online before it was officially released. That’s likely why he delayed dropping it—artists always want their music to come out the right way, not through leaks.
Now, onto the actual song. One word: smooth. This is one of those tracks that just flows effortlessly. It’s calm, chill, and easy on the ears. The beat is soft but catchy, and Rema’s voice blends perfectly with it. I’ve got to say, he knows how to create music that sticks.
The production? Top-tier. No surprises there because P.Prime was behind it. If you know P.Prime, you already know he delivers when it comes to Afrobeats production. Everything from the melody to the beat selection was done so well. You can just sit back and enjoy the sound without feeling like anything is off.
This song is perfect for a late-night drive, a chill solo moment, or even background music while working. It’s not the kind of song you’ll be jumping around to, but if you love Rema’s usual style, then you’ll definitely enjoy this one.
Odumodu ft. Victony "Pity this Boy"
Now, moving on to Odumodu’s latest track featuring Victony. This one also dropped on Friday, the same day as "Baby."
Let me be real—I wasn’t feeling this one as much. It’s not that it’s a terrible song, but it just didn’t hit the way I expected. From what I could pick up, the song is mostly about Nigerian girls and money, but there’s nothing really deep or meaningful about the lyrics.
That being said, it’s still a vibe. I won’t lie—Odumodu has this crazy energy in his music, and that’s what makes his songs enjoyable. Even if the lyrics aren’t saying much, you can still bob your head and catch a vibe. Plus, Victony’s vocals always add a nice touch to any song, so that made it a little better for me.
If you’re looking for a song to vibe to without thinking too much, then this might work for you. But if you prefer music with deeper meaning, this one probably won’t be on repeat.
Final Thoughts
The two songs are currently the most streamed songs in Nigeria at the moment. But between these two, Rema’s "Baby" is my clear favorite. The production is clean, the vibe is right, and it’s a song you can just enjoy at any time. But if you just want something energetic to blast in the background, Odumodu’s track might still do the job.
So, Hive fam, have you listened to any of these songs yet? What do you think? Let’s talk in the comments!
