SATISFACTION
There is a feeling or sense of satisfaction and accomplishment that comes with the purchase of any new item; be it household appliances, electronic items, mobile phone, landed property, car, musical instruments and gift items for Ksam (coughs, if you doubt the last option, try it and see… lol).
Such feeling of accomplishment gets heightened if the item purchased was long sought after or, perhaps, we’ve been yearning for it for a long period.
In most cases, we do not mind making sacrifices or inconveniencing ourselves for a long or short period to save up for such item. But when we purchase them, the joy is boundless and happiness is undiluted, and this joy dispels every challenge we experienced during this process.
In 2013, when I began to learn how to play the guitar (self-learning), I had always looked forward to the day when I will own a guitar, or buy a guitar for myself. It seemed like an impossible mission back then since I wasn't financially buoyant. But this didn’t hinder me from striving to learn how to play the guitar.
Well, I had the opportunity to use a small acoustic guitar in my parish (Church) to learn. Since there were no lead guitarists available then, it was really difficult for me to learn. This inspired my search and research on music through surfing the web: via YouTube videos, as well as joining online music groups on Facebook, Telegram and WhatsApp. There I learnt music theory and practical as well.
6 years later, in 2019, a day after my birthday (15th September), I bought my first acoustic guitar for N17,500 which was $46 at that time (but $22.4 at today’s dollar to naira rate). Well, I had to borrow some money to get that guitar. This is a really great guitar and it is still perfect till today.
2020 was the instrument year for me. Here, I got my most cherished electric guitar and alto saxophone as gifts from two of my friends who I taught music at some point (free of charge). I also got the guitar combo for free from another, and the same person also gave me my guitar effect processor at a subsidized rate (plus, he allowed me to pay it up within 4 months).
Yea, 2020 was the year of Covid, but I got these gifts before Covid kicked in! I was dumbfounded and I still continue to appreciate these friends even till today.
10 years after I began learning how to play guitar, I fulfilled my long-term dream of owning a semi-acoustic guitar or electro acoustic guitar.
A semi-acoustic guitar (or electro-acoustic guitar) is like the normal acoustic/box guitar, but the sound can be amplified like an electric guitar. Hence, the name "Electro-Acoustic." In other words, it can serve as an acoustic guitar and it can also serve as an electric guitar.
The Major reason why I have always been interested in the Semi-acoustic guitar is because I can easily carry it with me while travelling to another location/state without being bothered about playing it with or without electricity. In other words, if I were to carry my electric guitar around, I'll need to find means to amplify the sound via speakers before I will enjoy it or practice. If I carry my acoustic, I'll only be limited to the box sound, and if I were to play in a large gathering or an outdoor event I'll need to get another guitar for that.
But, with the electro-acoustic guitar, I am not bothered about both challenges.
Smiger LG-09-EQ Electro Acoustic Guitar
My Smiger LG-09-EQ Electro Acoustic Guitar is a 40' inches long guitar, made of mahogany and rosewood materials for the neck and fretboard, respectively.
It has a new and unique design for the pickup controller, one I haven't seen so far. It includes an inbuilt guitar Tuner, a volume knob, and three knobs to control the treble, mid and bass levels of the guitar tone. Finally, it has a phaser effect added to it, and this adds to its unique tone. This is powered by a battery.
The Jack plug port is located at this side of the guitar, which also holds the guitar strap.
The shape of the head of the guitar is carved in a unique way, giving it a distinct appearance.
I also purchased a soft-padded guitar bag along with the guitar to make my guitar look more presentable and beautiful.
One of the features of the guitar is its engraved sound hole, which adds to its aesthetics and aid in reducing feedback and noise for outdoor presentation. However, mine didn't come with it. I was highly disappointed because the person I ordered the guitar from said it no longer comes with the guitar only after he had delivered it. So without dragging the matter with him, I went to Jumai and ordered it. Hopefully, it'll arrive in 2 weeks time.
Then, my guitar will look this way as it should be.
I love the aesthetics.
Yes, it isn't a cheap guitar as everything, including the bag, guitar strap, the sound hole cover and delivery fee costs around $170. I had to take the decision to purchase it even if it required taking loans to pay back. Well, it's an investment and I hope I clear it as soon as possible.
So, get used to seeing me playing with my New Semi-acoustic guitar. Maybe I'll give her a name soon, or maybe not.
But, yes!
I am so happy, and that feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment is indescribable.
