VCV Jam 001 - exploring Path Set's sequencers

in #hive-1938162 years ago

I am rekindling my YouTube channel and to start off I've just uploaded this performance I produced tonight. It was in one take, kind of a challenge, there are one or two "bumpy" bits. one of which I'd call a happy accident at about three-quarters of the way through the song, see if you can spot it. I grinned to myself when I pulled it off, you think the song ends.... but no, I trick you!

The main modules in this piece are some new ones I bought earlier in the week from the developer Set Path, all of them sequencers that are utterly fantastic for creating melodies and multi playheads for polyrhythmic patterns.

It's fabulous, really good and you can pull off changes in mid performance that don't totally break it.

A big thank you for all of the support the last VCV related post received. Hope you enjoy this one as much as I did?

I am aiming to create a new artist page on Bandcamp, if not this year, next. I feel like I've got some music in me that is itching to get out there!

Shoutouts to the following people who've been inspiring me on Hive with their music. @tdctunes @grapthar and many others, if you know of other folks out there please tag them :-) I may never have come across them before.

Nice! I haven't used VCV much recently, I went through a phase of using it a bunch a couple years back. I should get back into it, it's so much fun to build a system without spending $1000s haha.

Thanks! That’s the thing because as much as I’d love a hardware setup, the cost of it is high. So I’ll gradually build one up over time. In the meantime I’m considering a hybrid of some sort, especially in the controllers sense.

Yea, I've been wanting to get a eurorack set-up for a long time, but have yet to pull the trigger and start out with some basics. Maybe that'll be my Christmas present to myself this year.

I got so hooked on the Elektron boxes, they sort of took the place of any near-term Eurorack ventures, hehe.

That would be great wouldn’t it. Not yet got any Elektron gear but I’m also contemplating starting a simple ER system…. Not yet but once I’ve explored VCV some more, figured out which modules I’d be in hardware form etc

I've always been fascinated by the music software specially because I just don't get it. But there is just too much of it. Each being very different from each other and understanding how to use them looks like magic.
One of the biggest mind-blowing interfaces had been the old plugs and cables of the different studio boxes. Understanding the sequence and the modulation looks like real magic where nothing really make sense but it works.
Of course I have taken music and played a couple of instruments but understanding music tech and even software is a whole different scene.
BTW I'm a big linux and open source guy and I usually recommend sites like Linuxaudio.org and http://www.64studio.com/

Thanks for stopping by and you are totally right. There is soo much to explore. It can be bewildering.
