trying to get out of my comfort one with photography

Good Morning all, Have a great day and rest of the week.

Now one area of photography I am not comfortable with is taking photos of people and those who have followed me for a while will know I often go out of my way to make sure I do not have people in my photos, perhaps in part because i am shy and do not like my photo taken, I must prefer being behind the camera.

and further because I do not like my photo taken maybe random people i see when out walking may not like their photo taken and may react badly if they see me taking there photo.

Previous post I have done with people in photos its always bene with one of my longer lenses so I can take them from a distance, but the other day on a walks on the Cove Walk a walkway built on top of the Hurricane barrier wall, here in New Bedford I had a wider lens on my camera and was taking photos of the views and the walkway itself when this guy came along on his skateboard an I quickly took a shot

you can se the look he gave me and I thought ohh here goes, but then he smiled and said hi as he skated past me

and I though OK that wasn't to bad so I decided on the rest of the walk I would try and catch some more people out enjoying the morning walk.

now some of these I had the camera up to my eye, but I will also admit for a few I wimped out and went with the shooting from the hip option and hoping for the best.

Now you may wonder what I mean by shooting from the hip, thats where I have the camera in my hands down at waist level as was people approach me I snap a quick shot from the hip and hope it catches them and the walkway in focus and in a reasonable frame I can crop and straighten

Most of my previous walks there had bene early morning around sunrise and not many people were out and about on these recent walks where I often og out a while after sunrise I am seeing a lot more people

I think a lot of it has to do with how professional you look too. If you have the right gear, people probably don't mind so much. They might even be hoping they will end up on a magazine cover or something! :) Great shots. I think they turned out nice!

Nice clicks but try to click natural photos. Usually i also avoid to click anyone's photo but if they offer something then I don't hesitate

Hahaha this is another trivia about you. Like me you're shy taking pictures of other people too. Me too I haven't tried doing it since. One thing I wish to have some pictures is the picture of the market, the vendors, the vegetables but I can't. Hopefully one day I can hehehe.

People watching/photography is always fun 👍 we visited Israel years ago and I got a "hip shot" of a Palestinian gaurd at a check point in Jericho with an AK47. Our guide was Israeli so it was a bit tense 😅

I spent a few years in Israel and have seen the guards in many places cool you got a from the hip shot of one

Ah we are alike in that one.

I am definitely not shy, I just apply my social powers selectively based upon the situation ;). I also do not like my photo taken but don’t panic like some people when you raise a phone up. Definitely don’t like that reaction and can understand.

I also loath the posing so many people do because they are vain, insecure, wannabe instagram model, or most likely are all 3. i prefer candid shots for real life representation of the instant.

Some people flourish when they think they are in a picture and often simply flip through pictures to see people. So, i take those sometimes too.

Yeah with work sometimes I had to force myself out of my bubble and and as you say use my social powers selectively, perhaps being retired for three and a bit years now my social powers have waned since i dont have the need to use them LOL

vain, insecure, wannabe instagram mod LOL ohh yeah I have seen many of those including family members lOL

looks like a fun group was the dress code blue that day?

funny side note in one unit of the army I was in, well the last one, there was a habit when someone was leaving at their farewell party a board would be put up with photos of the person leaving and normally there would be a bunch of photos

after 12 years in the military, they could only find three photos with me in, all unit semi official photos and I was always hiding in the background LOL

I also think in the same way that may be people will not like my photography and they will react badly. That's why I try not to take photos of other people. But it's really good that you took photos. These are really nice.

Wonderful to see so many people out enjoying a walk or some form of sport without masks hindering faces, contented be out under the sun.

Not taken photography of any folk in a long time, except within the family, nice to see normal life carrying on.

thats s true, well sunlight maybe I have had so much skin cancer removed I have to make sure ot put on sunblock before going out in the sun

Early morning or late afternoon walks the sun normally not as vicious as at midday. Seldom move around after ten in the morning without a hat for protection, long period, sunblock as well when I remember.

Haha, you're great! If you want to photograph people discreetly, then try using telephoto lenses. Well, or ultra-wide-angle lenses, point the camera not at people, but into the distance, so that they don’t think that you are photographing them, but thanks to the wide angle, you capture them.

Shooting people is always interesting, I usually end up with stares and glares more than anything. Only twice have I ever had anyone actually say anything to me, one was a little girl who asked that I not publish the photos, which I have respected, and the other was two guys running up at me at a protest demanding I delete my photos, which I refused.

The more you do it the easier it gets, so just keep at it. Before you know it people will be apologizing to you for getting in your shot.
