Missed HPUD, But Still Powering Up: Life Gets Busy!

in #hive11 days ago

I missed Hive Power Up Day (HPUD), but that's okay, sometimes life just gets busy. Between family commitments and the school year in full swing, things have been hectic. We're wrapping up the first quarter in a couple of weeks, and as a special education teacher, I’ve been busy updating progress on Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals, writing a brand-new IEP, finishing report cards by next Thursday, and preparing for parent-teacher conferences.

Even with the craziness, I’m still sticking to my goal of investing more in Hive each month, whenever I can. This month, I managed to purchase 2,786.808 HIVE and powered it up immediately, bringing my total to 15,524.314 HIVE.

I'm pretty pumped to be getting closer to 20,000! If I can keep up with my monthly investments and stay more active, hitting 100,000 HIVE might not be as far off as I thought. That would be an amazing milestone!

As for staying active here, I’ll be traveling again soon, so I’ll share some travel posts when I can. I also have a few posts coming about my kid picking up trash, he’s still really into it, always saying we need to clean everything. He loves using the trash grabber (or 'the claw,' as we call it), and his little brother is starting to get into it too.

On a personal note, as I approach 40, I'm realizing my body isn’t what it used to be, and I need to take better care of it. Staying active is a priority, but I also really need to start strength training, I think it’ll make a huge difference. I’ve also started tennis lessons since my oldest is loving the sport. I want to set a good example of hard work and be able to play with him as he grows up, hopefully keeping up with him for at least a few more years!

I'm thinking about doing a 90-day calisthenics challenge because, honestly, I’m not a big fan of going to the gym. First, it's tough to find time to get away from the family multiple times a week, and second, all that equipment can be intimidating, especially since I don’t know how to use most of it. Being an introvert, I’m not really one to ask for help either, which just feels like a recipe for injury, so I'll pass on that for now.

I’ll probably keep talking about my garden, especially my dragon fruit obsession. I’m really into it! I recently got a bunch of new cuttings that I’ve planted, and I’m picking up a few more soon. My yard might end up overflowing with them, but that’s fine with me. Homegrown dragon fruit is so much better than the ones you find in stores, and they’re ridiculously expensive at the market anyway

I used to play tennis until I gained a shoulder rotator cuff injury on my serving arm, that put an end to it. It's a great replacement for the Gym which I feel is really boring. Hope you don't suffer the same fate, I was a lot fitter then.

Congrats on the powerup, it's doesn't need to be on HPUD day, all you lose is a 'badge' 😄

I used to do so many things until I got this thing called getting older which there's no cure for. Having said that, with some adjustments life goes on...until of course it stops. 😊

Only my body has that thing called 'getting older.' My brain, on the other hand, still thinks it's incredibly young!

Climbing in buildings is all I get now, besides walking the dog.. and he's 12 and constantly looks at me after 100 yards... 'can we go back now?'.., it doesn't count for much 😀

Yeah, it happens. All those young whipper snappers will find out eventually.

Ouch. I hope I don’t end up in the same situation, especially since I’ve only been learning for 6 weeks with just 6 lessons so far. It’s been a lot of fun, though. The best part is seeing my kid make amazing progress since I started. It’s really motivated him to work harder, and now he’s moved up to a class with older, more advanced kids, which has made it even more enjoyable for him.

As for that badge... I’m not sure. I probably wouldn’t have noticed it otherwise. HPUD is a great reminder that it’s best to power up significantly over the course of a month.

Power up when you can, don't wait. It adds to your stake and immediately starts earnkng curation which adds more to your stake in a cycle. It's a good incentive. There is no incentive for waiting other than a bee badge...which, because you're not five years old, shouldn't be much to lose.

I never paid attention to the badges, so it's no big deal for me. The only reason I sometimes delay (usually 5-7 days) is because of tax filing. It helps me keep things organized in case I ever get audited here in the U.S

I do push ups which really works out the upper body and the core. It's one of those things that of you do several times a week makes a huge difference. Getting older sucks but I might have a few tears on you 🙂

I like the look of the dragon fruit, might give it a bash here. Indoors of course. Scotland is a bit cold and wet for anything else!

I've been working on them slowly, and I've also been focusing on trying to increase the number of pull-ups I can do, which right now is barely any.

Dragonfruit should do well inside as long as they have enough sunlight!

Pullups are hellish, lol. Although the rewards are good but so hard to maintain.

Sunlight might be a problem in winter!

hitting 100,000 HIVE might not be as far off as I thought.

I'm surprised you have this much faith in Hive (and commend you for the faith)! It's an old, decaying ghost from my perspective of 8 years or so. I've only seen the value slowly decline from dollars to cents, soon to be single digits...

On a personal note, as I approach 40, I'm realizing my body isn’t what it used to be

I've been feeling this at 37 so hard the last few months. A bunch of ailments building up long term, cracking joints, back pains, digestion, getting out of bed wrong making the whole day sore lol... I always thought it was just memes that you suffer in your 30's but it's so real.

Sad to see you feel this way, however I don't disagree, it's not the same place it used to be...but I'm not talking only from the financial value perspective. I've built, and keep building, my stake since mid-2017 and have no expectation it'll do anything for me at all financially (in the real world),but it's more enjoyable to be here with stake.

Yeah I mean, I don't really say it with a negative mood or feeling. I've not considered the monetary aspect for a very long time, since Steem days, really. I collect rewards out of habit and thats pretty much it heh.

I just like the quaint small atmosphere with almost zero toxicity. The second I go onto reddit or twitter and I'm reading endless scrolls of insults and threats. Hard pass!

I get it. I make my income in the real world and a few cents on Hive don't factor greatly, I've never used any in the real world, so it's all just magic internet money currently. I'll have a massive tax liability eventually.

I'd like to see things become more fun here, we used to have a fucken whale if a time, now...not so much. I just started the shit photography community to see if I could get some fun happening but I think many are so focused on posting where they feel they may get bigger rewards that fun doesn't enter the equation.

Sad.

I've never seen Reddit, no interest, and Twitter...same really. I have no social media...it's mostly toxic shit.

I've never seen Reddit, no interest, and Twitter

me neither. I doubt we've missed a thing.

I made the The Dull Club perhaps you could join, for all things dull (importantly, not 'boring').

Posted nothing yet but I'll make something of it soon

I just gave it a follow...I'm somewhat of a dullard, could be a good community for my dull brain to post dull things.

It's true that it could decline and disappear, and I'm okay with that. I'm only investing what I can afford to lose. But looking back, there were several opportunities I considered but passed on, and if I had just put some disposable income into them, I could have made a lot of money in the long run.

The money I'm using would probably have been spent on something unnecessary anyway. At least with this, it's something I can actually make use of now and hopefully well into the future.

I can totally relate to all the aches and pains. I'll be 37 in a few months, and I really wish I hadn't taken my body for granted in my 20s.

The money I'm using would probably have been spent on something unnecessary anyway.

Probably true yeah...I sometimes wonder how much money I've lost simply by not ever having put into savings or stocks until relatively recently. Just inflation alone would have cost me a fortune without even knowing. (stealth tax).

Well, we need more people with faith like you around here!

Thank goodness... your post reminded me that I need to buy and power up 20 Hive today for the Hive Marathon.

Hive On!!! 🚀🚀🚀🚀

I'm glad you didn't miss a day already! Keep it up! How many days in a row is it for???

It's a 90-day "marathon," and missing even one day means elimination 🤒. I better not miss any! 😅
